The city slickers from across the water have named their team to face us on Sunday and, like us, they’ve released details of their full match-day panel of 26, which is as follows:
London (Connacht SFC quarter-final v Mayo 29/5/2016): Gavin McEvoy (Tir Chonaill Gaels); Philip Butler (Tir Chonaill Gaels), Caoimhin Carty (Kingdom Kerry Gaels), Ciaran Dunne (Garryowen); Colin Dunne (Round Towers), Danny Ryan (St. Kierans), David McGreevy (Kingdom Kerry Gaels, captain); James Moran (St. Kierans), Liam Gavaghan (Tir Chonaill Gaels); Adrian Moyles (St. Kierans), Mark Gottsche (Tir Chonaill Gaels), Cormac Coyne (North London Shamrocks); Eoin Murray (Garryowen), Scott Conroy (North London Shamrocks), Patrick O’ Hara (North London Shamrocks). Subs: Conor Campbell, Conor O’Neill, Michael Walsh, Ciaran Healy, Cathal Og Greene, Eoin Mageean, Lorcan Mulvey, Sean Hickey, Ger Minihane, Alfie McNulty, Killian Butler.
The sources I’ve used for the above list (Connacht GAA and the Irish World) don’t include club details for the subs, I’m afraid, so you’ll have to do with names only there.
The team London have named features seven championship debutants – goalkeeper Gavin McEvoy, backs Ciaran Dunne, Colin Dunne and Danny Ryan, and Cormac Coyne, Eoin Murray and Patrick O’Hara in the forward line – and listed among the starting fifteen are three Mayo-born lads. These are full-back Caoimhin Carty (Aghamore), centre-back Danny Ryan (Kilmeena) and midfielder James Moran (Burrishoole). Conor Campbell (Swinford) and Michael Walsh (Ardnaree) feature among the subs. Both James Moran and Michael Walsh have seen FBD action for Mayo in the past, the former in 2011 and the latter in both 2012 and 2013. A piece on the Mayo lads’ involvement with London is in this week’s Mayo News – here.
As that piece linked above from the Irish World confirms, the London team for Sunday features four proper Londoners (lads, like, born there). These are ‘keeper Gavin McEvoy, corner-back Philip Butler, midfielder Liam Gavaghan and wing-forward Adrian Moyles. A further four locals – Sean Hickey, Alfie McNulty, Ciaran Healy and Killian Butler – will be on the bench at Ruislip.
Just landed here in London. Some crowd of Mayo supporters already travelled over!
I think only two of that London team started the Connacht final in 2013, defenders P Butler, D McGreevy. Lorcan Mulvey is their best forward and hes not starting because of a hamstring injury.
Very good interview with Tom Parsons on The 42 dot ie
He took up Athletics, boxing, basketball and soccer in order to help himself get back with Mayo. Outstanding effort.
Best of luck to the mayo lads playing with London. It must be a special occasion for them if a bit wishful. Enjoy the weekend to all who have travelled and best of luck connaught in pro 12 also.
