Hot on the heels of last night’s team announcement by Johnno for Saturday evening’s showdown with Sligo, Kevin Walsh has named his starting fifteen for Markievicz Park. Here it is:
Sligo CSFC v Mayo: Philip Greene; Charlie Harrison, Noel Maguire, Ross Donovan; Keelan Cawley, Brendan Phillips, Johnny Davey; Tony Taylor, Stephen Gilmartin; Mark Breheny, Alan Costello, Eamonn O’Hara; Colm McGee, Kenneth Sweeney, David Kelly.
This side shows two changes from the one that beat Antrim in the NFL Division 3 final at Croke Park the day before … well, you know what day it preceded. Injured centre-back Mark Quinn is replaced by Brendan Phillips while Frank Quinn (any relation?) is replaced at no.12 by the evergreen Eamonn O’Hara. Mark Breheny and Mayo native Alan Costello – who lines out against us for the first time, although he’s been with the Yeatsmen for some time – swap places in the half-forward line.
Just after looking at your archive WJ. Last time we met in c-ship 2008 we won by 3-11 to 0-7. They retain 7 of the starting 15 that day plus 3 subs. We retain 8 of our starting 15 plus 3 subs as well. What it means I am not sure. We lost Nallen, Heaney, AOM from that era, they got Noel McGuire,Phillips and Gilmartin back. Andy Moran was at 15, Gardiner at 10, K Conroy at 7 and Cunniffe at 5. We seem to be still trying to figure where to play lads. Sorry for the pessimism but this is not the team of a settled manager or backroom team.
Cannot see a whole lot to worry about here, especially when you think david kelly vs keith higgins.Tony Taylor? Well if tom does not take him to tthe cleaners, he will not take anybody.Tubby traitor at centre forward, I thought he was happy warming the bench for the fbd for us…If he is centre forward then it makes me alot more positive…c’mon mayo
tubby traitor wasn’t too bad was he jj? get over it, plenty of lads have swapped allegiances down the years. he didn’t get his chance in mayo and took his with us.
