Match day panel for this evening’s Minor match

The county’s U17 footballers are back in Connacht Championships action at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park this evening (throw-in 7pm). Leitrim provide the opposition in this one and here’s the match day panel we’ve named for it:

Mayo (Connacht MFC v Leitrim, 3/5/2024): Nathan Roddy (Ardnaree Sarsfields); Charlie Beale (Ardnaree Sarsfields), Tom Hession (Eastern Gaels, captain), Daithí Butler (The Neale); Barry Langan (Ballinrobe), Mark Noonan (Claremorris), Mark Sheeran (Lahardane MacHales); Josh Moyles (Crossmolina Deel Rovers), Kobe McDonald (Crossmolina Deel Rovers); Andrew Quinn (Mayo Gaels), Fionn O’Kinsella (Westport), Dylan Flynn Crossmolina Deel Rovers; Killian Conway (Westport), Oisín Deane (Crossmolina Deel Rovers), Evan Walsh (Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin). Subs: Oisín Costello (Breaffy), Seán Óg McGuinness (Crossmolina Deel Rovers), David Hurley (Claremorris), Harry McHale (Castlebar Mitchels), Paul Hurst (Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin), Mark Feeney (Ballyhaunis), Derry Óg Cox (Aghamore), Jack O’Malley (Westport), Owen Loughney (Lacken Sarsfields).

So it’s six changes from the team that lined out last week against Galway. Into the starting fifteen come Charlie Beale, Barry Langan, Mark Sheeran, Andrew Quinn, Killian Conway and Fionn O’Kinsella and out go Conor Coghill, David Hurley, Conor Kavanagh, Harry McHale, Conor Moriarty and Owen Loughney.

Those of you who would have listened to the Final Whistle pod after the Galway game would have heard joint-manager David Heaney on it. He said then that a number of different players were likely to get a run tonight and that’s clearly what’s happening.

By the way, we’ll have a Final Whistle from Castlebar up on Patreon after tonight’s game as well. If you’re planning on heading to it the ticket link is here and, of you’re not but would still like to see the game, Connacht GAA’s streaming link is here.

The best of luck to the lads this evening.

  1. Minors are 0-6 to 0-3 up at half-time. Cagey, defensive game so far and Leitrim look like a spirited team but we’re beginning to find a few gaps in their backline.

  2. Show this game to the rules committee. This game is being killed by Leitrim being able to pass to the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper must be removed as a passing option. 15 behind the ball and use your Goalie.

  3. @JP. Spot on. This should be seen by the recently appointed body to look at possible changes. If ever there was a case for banning the pass back to the goalkeeper, this is it. Leitrim are sending almost every ball back to the keeper-I have never seen a worse example of it-it is shocking.
