Mayo 2-13 Galway 1-13: Carr’s early goals drive us on to victory

It appears the tide has, indeed, turned.

Mayo being Mayo, we had to have more drama at the end than we really needed to but, over the course of the 78 or so minutes that were played, we bossed the game for large spells and were full value for the three-point win with which we eventually came away from the Gaelic Grounds.

The concession of early goals has been a weak spot for us all year but this evening we were the ones to rattle the net. Those two majors, both finished by James Carr, were huge for us and put us in control of the game, leaving us a handsome six points to the good at the break.

Before the first one we’d got the game’s first two points, Cillian O’Connor converting a free as early as the first minute, Kevin McLoughlin letting off a snap shot that fizzed over just after.

Our first goal was fortuitous enough, when Galway’s ‘keeper Power made a hash of a harmless ball in, which cannoned out to James Carr who gleefully finished to the net. This was the dream start for us.

Galway settled after that early setback, though, with points from O’Donnell and Cooke getting them going on the scoreboard.

Then James Carr gathered the ball over fifty yards out and hit for goal. He sashayed clear of the flailing cover – I was amazed he wasn’t nailed before he got his shot away –  and bore down on Power’s goal. Once within the range he let fly and the net rattled a second time. It was a truly stunning strike from the Ardagh player.

Galway were already staggering and from then until half-time they continued to wobble but, to be fair to them, they did enough before the break to keep the contest alive.

Ten minutes before half-time we had stretched the lead to eight points, following two frees converted by Cillian O’Connor. But Galway got four of the remaining six scores of the first half, the exceptions being a glorious outside-of-the-boot effort from Cillian and a super one from out on the right from Darren Coen.

Damien Comer was introduced from the start of the second half and he quickly made his presence felt, rising to direct a punched effort goalwards only to see it come back off the upright.

But it was us who got more profit in front of the posts early in the second half, with the Coen cousins to the fore. Darren, off the right, got the first of these while Stephen ended a flowing move by smashing over one on the run.

That put us eight clear and Jason Doherty restored that advantage soon after Walsh, from the ’45, scored for them.

But Galway got the next four points, halving that handsome lead we’d enjoyed, as the game – at so many levels – started to come to boiling point. It could have been worse too as Galway got a penalty for a pull down in the square but David Clarke saved Silke’s effort superbly.

When Darren Coen pointed for us in the 61st minute, to end a longish barren spell for us, it felt like a huge score. Huge too was Lee Keegan’s introduction just after, coming on for Fionn McDonagh who had run so much and worked so hard.

Cillian landed a monstrous free from out on the right a few minutes later and, with that, the first of the Galway crowd began to leave their seats. More followed when Donal Vaughan booted over soccer-style, an effort that would have yielded a goal had he managed to keep his shot down.

Six to the good entering injury time, there was no way back for Galway, even with the six additional minutes that were called. They did manage to halve that lead, Shane Walsh driving the ball to the net direct from a 14-yard free but it was too late. We had the chance to have the final say on the scoreboard but Cillian’s free drifted wide. It made no difference as the full-time whistle sounded soon after and we had won by three points.

We’d done it. Not in any kind of swashbuckling manner, as we let Galway back into it far more than we should have done but the bottom line was that we needed to win tonight and win we did. This was a knockout Championship match and we knocked Galway out. That’s got to be a good evening’s work.

So we’ve successfully completed our journey through the qualifiers. At the second time of asking we’re in the Super 8s where a meeting with Kerry is already starting to loom large for us. Let’s leave that for now, however, and instead savour this memorable win, our first over Galway since 2015, one that underscores the point that we’re still a force to be reckoned with in Gaelic football. On we go, onto the next challenge that awaits. Up Mayo.

  1. Game won in first 20 minutes via our sharper match practice and hunger. Galway off the pace.

    Is Carr the second coming?

    We had good attitude tonight.

Still a little weak in midfield though from our own long kick outs.

    Satisfying win.

Why didn’t managers shake hands afterwards?

    We’re getting better you know!

  2. Well done Mayo. I was fully confident that Mayo would win . Killarney next weekend & that will be another battle . Whoever wins will be with Donegal in the semi’s. Galway would have suited us in Kerry better but It’s Mayo & that will be a wonderful occasion.

  3. I’ll never ever ever ever park at Na Piarsaigh again
If I ever get out of here that is

  4. James carr our new star forward. Has the swagger and the look of a winner and sticks the ball where it matters the back of the net. Reminds me of Colin Corkery for Cork back in the day. Himself and Darren coen and Cillian won us the day with crucial scores. Absolutely delighted. Darren coen fair play. Poor old mayo finished with no talent end of and era how do. League champions and our joggernaught now heading for killarney.

  5. Well done Mayo , deserved win and I know will support you for the remainder of this run..
Galways year has been ravaged by injuries and four midfielders out tonight along with our captain was a step too far. Possibly a change coming with large calls all over Galway media tonight for a certain Mayo man to take the helm.
As always we will be back in Jan for another Fbd fight.
Enjoy the rest of this adventure.
    I’ll sign off here for a while…

  6. For once it’s great to live in Limerick. Home with the feet up! Team is looking exciting. Fantastic to have Carr back. Loads of options despite all the injuries. What a game to look forward to next week! Can’t wait!

  7. Longest game ever! Exhausting. The goals..oh the confidence of youth.well done James Carr. Great to have Cillian back. Mighty penalty save by David. Boyler brilliant. Finally..the Mayo supporters: just unreal tonight. So proud.

  8. Is anyone still stuck in that na Piarsaigh carpark??!!
Gridlock in here since final whistle and its 1030 pm now!
No sign of traffic issues subsiding.

  9. Mayo are just a wonderful team that make us all proud of being from Mayo

  10. No forwards they said, no full backs they said, too old they said. Joe Brolly they said,

    Up Mayo we says

  11. Have been sitting in the car since 8:45 in the Na Piarsiagh car park and have moved about 5 feet.
    It’s now 10:40.
    Outrageous

  12. 2-09 from the forward line

    no forwards they said!!!!!

there will be dancing in the streets of belmullet tonight !!!!

  13. Huge credit to management. Galway got tactics all wrong in first half and paid the price. League champions and quailfy for super 8s. A much better place than last year. Hoping Durcan injury is no more that hamstring pull and not a tare. Departed fairly confortably….

  14. Us folk from around Ballyhaunis have a lot of guff to listen to off the rossies when their tails are up, but one rossie watching with us this evening gave us a highly charged compliment. “That Mayo team”he says,”are like an old ford dexter , they just won t f#$%&*g die” .! Mayo we love you!!!

  15. Mayo very positive from the off and got the decisive goals.

Galway were missing their leaders through injury, but still no excuse for the evident dissaray they were in.

Galway came back into it a little in second half, and profited when throwing caution to the wind and, pushing up on Mayo.

I must say several of Mayor’s new players have the heart for battle. However, I feel teams will have seen the weaknesses again in full back line. At one stage I thought Higgins was going to be forced into his own net – didn’t seem to be able to work the ball safely out of danger area.

So It’s on to Killarney. I don’t think tonight’s game will have taken any undue physical toll, as in truth, you were well in control and, I’d say 7/8 points a better team.

I’m not one who likes to criticise managers, but a change of focus is now required in Galway, as many of our players are 25/26 years of age, physically in their prime, and time waits for no man.

Good result for our ladies.. For us it’s off to Tuam next Wed. for u-20 final and see what Joycie and Sammon are bringing to the table..

  16. Couldn’t ask for much more than that.
Again we had the few minor heartattacks but some serious character in this team.

Yes forwards will get all the spotlight and rightly so but Harrison was superb. Barrett tight as fuck in probably widest pitch outside croker. Superb tenacious stuff against Burke comer and others tried but lads were top
Clarke gave them such confidence. Comes for ball gets it excellent
Higgins was his best. Paddy durkan manmarked walsh and do influencical. Please don’t let him be injured.
Boyler as Defined in Oxford dictionary is tough as teak bad ass footballer.
Stephen coen I though was superb. Really looked his underage captain material. Lead by example solid and there to help everyone aswell as a delicious score.
Aidan I was very impressed with. Despite All concerns about injuries he was everywhere.
VaugHan top man for work rate shame about his Chip that he didn’t get his goal
McDonagh done well in congested game
Doherty top score but need more from a seasoned campaigner
Mcloughlin showed well early but faded
Carr no longer the Richie Feeney of the keyboard warriors. Man is loaded with talent only needs to remain fit everything else will fall into place for him.
    Coen top marksman
Cillian. Leader a Top talent and footballer

Great to see Bench being used especially Eoin o d as think he will be needed as year goes on.

Ya it’s all falling into place. A draw in Killarney massive game v Donegal and top scorer v Meath take it all I would think

  17. Living on the mayo side of ballagh oldtimer. I hear ya. We’ll be the last connacht team standing this year though. Can see ros being whitewashed by Dublin, Tyrone and Cork

  18. Great to get that win and to be the team scoring early goals for a change. Great energy and focus from team and from management. It was also good to see Seamie o Shea back on board. For a team with so many injuries and challenges I must say you do yourselves proud and you lift my heart with pride too. Listened to the game on rte radio and I have to say the Mayo crowd was immense. Fair play to each one of you. You could feel the Mayo energy and passion through the airwaves and that too made me proud. You are mighty too. Sit back, rest and enjoy. Thanks to all our team and panel and management for all you do…not just today but always.
Looking forward to the next steps. Let’s believe and see where that brings us. Ah Mayo… you make my heart sing, you mean everything to me…ya!

  19. Well done to the team and management they held firm dug deep and won. I think we will travel to Killarney with a lot of hope and take great encouragement from that victory. Second goal from James Carr was brilliant contender already for goal of the year, he went a bit quiet after that but he’s the real deal. Good to see Eoin O Donoghue come on at the end too

  20. Darren Coen has transformed the Mayo forward line, delighted he finally got due recognition. No fear going to Killarney next Sunday, huge pressure on Kerry, if they lose Donegal could put them out in Croker. But that’s next week, today these players and management delivered and it feels great!

  21. I live in mayorstone, limerick. can we not just make the Gaelic grounds our new home venue (smiley)?

  22. That has to be one of the most satisfying wins in many a long day and full credit to Horan for pulling it off, he sure has the Indian sign over Galway now. Compare where we are now as against how we felt following our defeat to Roscommon a few short weeks ago – it’s like chalk and cheese. And the most heartening thing of all is to see the return to fitness of so many of our big players, in this regard, it was so uplifting to see Seamus O’Shea make a brief appearance at the end and Keegan having gotten over what seemed to be a very serious ankle injury last week. So rather than be all burned out by the demands of the back door run of games, it appears to be having the opposite effect, we now appear to be a battle-hardened bunch who are growing in confidence by the day – Tralee here we come.

  23. Mayo played with real conviction from the word go tonight. New forwards McDonagh Carr & Coen are a breath of fresh air & have given us a new purpose.

Coen was magnificent again tonight & linked brilliantly with Cillian who made a wonderful comeback & showed us what we’ve been missing. I can see this becoming a deadly partnership & with Carr’s direct style can make a formidable full forward line – just what Mayo have been missing!

Keith was back to his best – the number of kickouts he won was amazing – where does he find the energy ? Whole fullback line were back to normal & Boyle’s sweeper role was very effective. Durkin kept Shane Walsh quiet & Coen & Donie performed really well around the middle.
Over all Horan must be well pleased with progress & looking forward to Killarney !

Major concern I see is dealing with runners coming though the middle – we need to stop these much earlier so up to Midfield & half forward line to close these down early.

Really energised by this performace & booked into Killarney next week – cant’wait !

We’re not going away anytime soon – Kerry/Donegal look out !!!

  24. That was so so so sweet.
Carrs goal maybe the best I’ve seen. What a way to shred the blanket.

I actually felt we controlled this one from start to finish.

I feel so sorry for all that got stuck there in traffic. Was back home in Galway at 9.30pm.

The red and green shirt will be worn to work for the week.

Congratulations to our managment and players. A fantastic win.

  25. Like Tuamstar Im deflated but the better team won and Horan has unearthed new talent and achieved a tick box in making Super8. Carr was good as was Coen, O Connor and all the Mayo backline. It looked very physical on tv assume even more so if you were there. Kerry wont fancy Mayo in Killarney given the worries the Kerry fans I know have about the defence but they will be better next week than against the rebels who incidently put up a massive score today. Mayo shot conversion rate is improving and this is key to continuing your success. It will be tight in Killarney ye will need to keep it to 100% for longer than tonight but in fairness we did raise our game when it was too late of course but going 15+ minutes without a score against Kerry would be risky.

Sounds pure shite stuck in a xar after tge match for 90 mins!!!!

  26. Horan gets 11 out of 10 tonight, was animated on sideline and picked right team, we managed game pretty well even though we should have won by a lot more. Boyer immense. 1 criticism is that we are still giving away silly frees. I feel sorry for the folks who parked in na piarsaigh, I will have a few words with them.. safe home and see u next Sunday

  27. Great win. Serious work rate all the way through. I know the full forward line did the damage but I think Vaughan deserves a mention for the shift he put in – he’s a machine. Battled for every ball. First full game and he was still charging around the place at the end. Also Clarkey – don’t think he put a foot wrong tonight – penalty save, coming for balls in the square, coming out with it, kick outs. Well done James Horan too. He got his selection right and really seems to get lads primed for working hard. Andy in reserve too for Kerry who he loves playing.

  28. With all the great performances around the pitch it’s great that Stephen Coen’s great game was noticed. His point looked fantastic and in general the performance was great!

  29. ‘‘Tis great to beat them. They were poor enough but we never seemed likely to lose. Cillian was very impressive. Well done all. See you all again in killarney

  30. 2-8 out of 2-13 came from out FF line. We have serious fire power there now. Clarke, Boyle, Harrison, mcdonagh, mcloughlin, Coen, cillian. So many lads played out of their skin.

Whatever happens next it’s been a successful year one for Horan, league champions, making the super 8’s, beating Galway and at least 3 new def starters. Another 3 or 4 pushing hard for a place. We’re not going away!

  31. Christ lads. That Carr goal! Still buzzing of it. The area I was in turned into an impromptu moshpit after it. Carnage.
The best goal I have seen since Owen mulligan

As for Darren coen, what a revelation that guy is. He is our best forward now and a shoe in for an allstar

  32. Great team performance. Defensively so much better. Ball stuck most times when kick-passed through despite greasy conditions. So many savage performances (picking a motm almost seems unfair). While his cousin Darren has been making waves recently, I thought Stephen Coen was immense. Excellent marking, link play was very strong, and would be interesting to see his GPS tracker stats. A real confidence booster coming at a crucial time in the campaign. Speaking of confidence, great to see the swagger of the younger/newer chaps. Frustrated by one of our later subs who bombed a poor effort wide when a cool head was needed. Just seemed headless. No other real contribution that I could see (would need to see recording). We can’t afford that, especially when everyone else is busting a gut. Thought Cooke was the only one who took the fight to Mayo. Maybe drawing Galway was a blessing – the boys were super psyched and focused from the get go. Looking forward to Killarney and to some banter with our Kerry brethren over the week. Finally, a big thanks to the the team and management for yet another massive evening of entertainment.

  33. When I saw team I had a good feeling, we were way sharper, Walsh has made a mess of Galway playing that shite with the talent they have, I’m happy enough now making s 8s, but stars are align for us, 70 for Cillian and seami coming on, Lee backnext thing Parsons will be back.
MC Donagh and carr the future, we will get goals off Kerry for sure, defended we’ll tonight
I made car park mistake as well but I don’t have as far to travel

  34. That was our best defensive performance this year….’Not hard’ you’ll say!!

Thought Aido’s form has dipped a bit over last 2 games. He looked a little off despite having a decent performance. I suppose we are used to him dominating. He had a few chances to burst into space and break the lines but most times went lateral or stepped back.

Coen and Carr did well! I still think there’s more in Kevin and Jason. Without being too harsh but I didn’t think our substitutions up front strengthend our team at all. Regan seemed afraid to put the head down and drive for goal. There was one chance just before Walsh’s goal (which was criminal to concede!!) where Regan had one defender between him and the goal over on the Mackey stand side. An ideal scenario for a corner forward and one which really should have yielded an easy score, which would have guaranteed the win.

Great to get the win but still plenty to work on. As someone said above there were too many times where a Galway players ran 20/30 yards thru the middle.

We also can’t afford to have 15 min spells without a score.

And we need to increase our breaking ball count from our own kickouts. Kerry will push up on us and not allow Clarke kick to Higgins all day. So we need to plan for this.

Otherwise the next 6 days are all about rest and recovery.

    On to Killarney!

  35. James Carr goal was the best goal that I have seen, since the great Padraig Brogan goal v Dublin years ago.

  36. Finally got out of that god damn “car park” at 1055pm
Mayhem doesn’t even come close to describing it
At least my car is in one piece though
Unlike the 3 that the cops were still trying to mediate when we left
    NA PIARSAIGH NEVER AGAIN

    And as for Irish rail!!!!!

  37. Darren Coen is player of the year – not just Mayo – he may well be the marquee forward ur waiting for. I know Carr got the goals but as alluded to above by WJ I think most managers would be raging a finger was laid him for the journey before his excellent finish. Have no idea how Walsh shot at the end could be conceded…Walsh was huge disappointment for the neutral tonight – but all credit to Paddy Durcan – can’t believe he didn’t take penalty …Walsh looked like a Messi with Argentina tonight …but he doesn’t have a Barcelona to go back to the remove any doubts about him….and their is some doubts now. His namesake surely gone now as manager. Boyle is as very good where it mattered – although distribution not great. Should be a cracker next week. As an aside I think Tyrone a different proposal than last year – I think they took the hurt of that final to become much more ruthless about their approach.

  38. Tuamstar….surely Galway can produce their own manager?? A great footballing county and all… o think you guys have dipped into Mayo enough times over the last two decades!!! My understanding too that this is a foregone conclusion are well wide of the mark.

I have heard PJ’s name several times.

  39. Na Pairsigh car park would have been fine if the nGardai had let the lights do the work. They made a balls of it. Great win. Carr goal is the best goal I have seen since McLoughlins goal against Cork in 2011. Overall a good team performance. Great to have O Connor back. Free takers are worth their weight in gold.

  40. Fantastic evening… I’ll hold my hand up and admit I thought they were going to beat us again… I just went along because I wanted to see Andy Moran play for one last time… how daft was I?? James Carr was class tonight, as was Darren Coen and Colm Boyle… I’d like to see Colm get a rest next weekend, but don’t know who could take his place… wouldn’t it be just amazing to see Cillian smash Colm Cooper’s scoring record next weekend against Kerry on their home turf?? If Carlsberg did record attempts!!!

  41. Finally, finally, we can dare to say that we have a formidable full forward line in Cillian, Coen and Carr. Not at all surprised by Carrs brilliant contributions today. The game was made for him. A great talent and strong as a bull. Like many of the other younger players over the last month, he will have learned a ton from today and it will bring him on no end. More of the same the next day please James.

I’m more surprised at how unreal Cillian was after such a long layoff. This is the story of today. For sure. Boy do we still need him. The performance of a real leader. Having him back playing like that is simply massive. Massive.

You’d have to feel for Andy but he will likely be used now as a second half sub now and I’m sure he will play a key role yet this year. Amazing to think he didn’t even play today and we still dominated the match and should have won by a lot more.

  42. And by God did Jason doc take some abuse today from galway. Hats off to him I thought he’d a great game considering. Several players targeted him.
I agree, overall (apart from our usual obligatory wobble) our defence was very good, really tightening up from recent matches and we played more as a unit. Can still improve even further.

  43. Fair play to Mayo Brilliant to win Have to admit I thought we’d be up against it but tonight was a big improvement on previous games Full back line were a lot better. Voted for Durcan as my No 1 man of the match. Thought he did a great job on Walsh. Hope his injury is not too bad. Absolutely delighted and as I have said many times before these Mayo players are exceptional and we should be so so proud of them. Kerry here we come.

  44. Just in door. Shattered but so so happy I could have walked home from Limerick.
    What a team!
What pride they bring to our county!
A credit to themselves and all!
They just never gave up to the end!
That penalty save, wow, thank you David. If that went in…… antics of Galway lads at end was crazy stuff. No voice.
G.nite all. The great journey continues…..

  45. Just in the door..great win..should really have been by more but any win tonight would do. What a goal by James Carr…some really great performances all over the pitch.

Na Piarsaigh carpark would not have been alright if the guards had done there job. There was no structure at all in place for leaving it…cars coming from all angles trying to get out. Got to the car after game…took one look and went back into town for food. Was still bedlam well over an hour later. Thank God we we won…helps the old patience in these situations!!

  46. “They love their football and their passion is unquestioned but they can get over confident and with little encouragement or hard evidence. Not a nasty overconfidence, more an innocent one. Coming from Kerry, where the opposite is the case, I always found that intriguing” – eamonn, lord bless you, you’re not at the helm anymore, but, as you, and all belonging to you know, we’re coming for ye kid, and all the pedigree in the world won’t stop us sacking the kingdom and taking what’s ours!

  47. Great result, though as always we found away to make it hard for ourselves.
Hard to call a single MOTM and even finding only 3 to select when so many were excellent too. Stephen Coen deserves a special mention, he slotted in fairly seamlessly, scored a point and showed what it is he’s has that had him selected as Captain for All Ireland winning teams at Minor, Under 21 and Sigerson level.
Onward to the Super 8’s. Our Physios will be busy.

  48. Willie Joe, I am an avid reader of the blog, I love it and rarely feel the need to comment as there are far more erudite lads and lassies on here, I just would like to point out the absolute horror post match of trying to get out of Na Piarsigh car park, I had to go home to Donegal where I have lived for the last 39 years, at 10.20 p.m I still had not left said car park, literally hadn’t moved one inch from 8.40 p.m to 10.20 p,m,, the Gardai in their wisdom had the traffic lights shut off at the dual carriageway junction until they cleared the whole of the city of traffic, completely and utterly unacceptable, anyway I’m home now hence the late post, I have calmed down and it’s dawning on me that this was the most important victory for a Mayo team in a long time, We bossed the game for the most part, nothing done wrong by the team at any stage, Galway were in trouble and pushed up and basically played the way we know Galway can play, to arrive at my point, I know, long winded, when opposing forwards push up on our kick out, it is imperative I feel for Clarkey to hit the ball as long and as far as he can, we have a great midfield and we will win 75% of our own kick outs, cleanly or through breaking ball, it’s that simple, for now though, I am savouring this one, it was sweet !

  49. First win against Galway in the championship since 2015 WJ and a well deserved win and the much talked about injury list clearing up in time for the business end of the championship. Coen,Carr and O’Connor was too much to Galway defence this evening and yes Galway were allowed back into the game 2nd half but i don’t think Mayo were in danger of losing that game like say Armagh last weekend.

Will be no fear of Kerry next. Beaten them twice already this year and have a good record down in Kerry and have serious momentum from winning 3 games in a row.

  50. Well.. I have to say first of all Absolutely fantastic to win.. . Game’s take their own unpredictable direction at times and early on it all seemed to ‘This is Mayo’s day’ from the Early somewhat fourtious Goal, to the best Goals of the year minutes later, brilliant James Carr…..It was going to be very close to impossible to stop Mayo from there on in… I was lucky, my brother was doing the driving and we were in early for the Ladies and parked in our usaul spot….Home early enough for a few pints… But Despite our Fantastic Win… I still don’t think that the attendance of 19K+ justifies the in our case and thousands of others, 120 mile/200KM longer round trip to Limerick than Hyde Park would take… I see that many of our loyal Supporter’s have had to endure a ridiculously long wait to get out onto the Motorway, hour’s in fact to get home… Now anyone can take the Fact’s ‘for what they are… Maybe Dr Hyde Park might have a capisity of 18,500 like it had for the Connacht Final of 2018 or the 25,000 capisity it was deemed to be capable of holding a few weeks later in 2018 for Roscommon versus Donegal Super Eight’s fixture last year…. Time to ask the people who make this decision (The CCCC, including the Connacht Secetary) a few very hard questions,.

    .

  51. It might take a day or two for the typewriters to warm up but rest assured we can expect the usual bullshit articles from some of the Kerry greats accusing Mayo of cynical tactics and in the process, putting officials on notice of such actions. Of course, Kerry is the leaders in the dark art of cynicism, (will we ever forget that match in Limerick a few years ago) but that won’t stop them from writing such nonsense. Eamon Fitzmaurice’s article last week is typical of the kind of thing we can expect over the next few days.

  52. Great to hear JH say after the game that Diarmuid will hopefully return during the Super 8s. Even if it was off the bench, that would be another serious option. Lee back on track, Cillian looked razor sharp and Donie was all over the field.

Paddy’s injury didn’t look too serious either, so fingers cross he’ll be good to go against Kerry.

We may be now close to full strength and the rest of country has not seen this Mayo team at the latter end with the depth we now have, as well as a lethal full forward line. Look out…

  53. Just a caveat to the above – the comments on DOC were reported by Ger Flanagan of the Mayo News, in case anyone is wondering where it came from

  54. That’s correct. We now have another month of football to look forward too.

Summer is no time for heavy blankets and so Galway are gone.
We will work on our game and see where that leaves us 4 weeks from now.

It’s maybe a good thing that we are in action again next week. Keep our minds on the action and the task at hand.

I hope everyone is home and rested after the traffic bedlam after the match. I didn’t get caught in that.

There was however another traffic incident on the way to the match coming from the Galway side.

Traffic came to a halt and eventually we were directed off the main road and simply told “take the old Limerick road”.

After turning off the road our new route took us to a t junction. The signage didn’t help and right looked like the right way to take us towards Limerick. It wasn’t right we should have gone and found this out as we met cars coming from the other direction having had to turn back themselves.

This begged the question, could the guard simply not have said ” go left at the t junction” ?

    No.

I suppose they are not trained to give helpful information.

After turning and heading back the other direction we eventually came on a road sign which pointed us up another road with a detour arrow sign on it. Yes, arrowed to go up this other road.

At this stage we met Mayo colours coming back down this road.

    Yes.

    Wrong road.

Another illegal 3 point turn in the middle of the road.

This begged the question, could the guard simply not have put the detour arrow pointing to the correct road ?

    No. Could they fuck.

I suppose they are not trained to point arrows to the correct route.

After seeing what I saw getting to the match I’m not surprised to hear that people got held up for hours, not moving an inch, after the match.

Not good enough yesterday from the gardai in charge of traffic.

Anyway, they know how, and which way to point detour signs around Killarney.

    Just ask Eamon Fitzmaurice.

  55. Unbelievable so proud to finally beat Galway. Well done To whole group and hopefully from here on in we can all show respect and refrain from making any negative comments about any individuals or management. Positive comments only and on that note can I add is Colm Boyle not the greatest inspirational player of all time. Awesome again.

  56. Well done Mayo. This was the performance that I have been waiting for for years for us to put in against Galway. We got stuck into them from the start and took them on something we hadn’t done in years. Could and should have won it by more. Our subs got caught in possession too many times near the end and that nearly cost us. As well as Dublin joe making some crazy decisions against us. Fair play to the lads the courage and will to win they showed last night was amazing. We have no one to fear in the super 8 I just hope injury and fatigue doesn’t catch up with us. What ever happens this team makes you so proud.

  57. It’s nice waking up knowing we are in the Super 8’s and our team is ticking along nicely. I thought Horan managed the game well he often gets a lot of stick for his late substitutions etc but couldn’t fault him yesterday the only thing I would have Done different is have brought on Andy instead of Evan Regan. Regan contributed zero yesterday apart from a bad wide he’s been on the panel a while now and has loads of chances and hasn’t really contributed much in comparison to Darren Coen and James Carr who are really taking their chance and are driving the team on. Andy will be fresh for Kerry if he’s needed.

  58. Kerry will feel they will have the legs on us next week .. obvious some lads ran out of energy ( not effort!!) near the end … Panel with play a huge part next week ..Well done lads ,.Our warriors did us proud again

  59. That was a sweet victory is so many ways. We owed that one to Galway after recent years. It was telling that it was they who lost discipline in the end, finishing with 12 players, after their half back line engaged in Walsh’s rough-house tactics from the start to entice Mayo into losing players, which is how they’ve beaten us in the past. Comer coming into the fray smacked of desperation to me, and apart from his fisted effort which hit high up in the post, I thought he was of little impact and was clearly not match fit.
I thought some of our established players whose form was a bit iffy in recent weeks have started to come good (eg Patrick Durcan, Kevin McLoughlin, Keith Higgins). We can’t always depend on Aiden, and I think the burden of not having the legs of Mattie Ruane at midfield with him is taking its toll. Having said that, Stephen Coen has his best display in a longtime in the green and red.
No shortage of confidence going to Killarney with a FF line of O’Connor-Coen-Carr, but no doubt James Horan will mix things up again, as the use of the full squad is key to getting through the Super 8’s.
There’s an exciting few weeks ahead!

Regarding the traffic last night, I would also complain about the length of time it took the Gardai to allow traffic from Jetland shopping centre car park to cross over the Ennis Road to head towards Limerick IT and out the old
Cratloe Road. We weren’t all trying to go out the Ennis Road, but they were oblivious to this point and just because there was nothing moving from East to West across the junction, they didn’t let anything move from South to North across the junction either. Once we eventually got across the junction to flew out of Limerick.

  60. Carradona! What a goal! That score will be written about for lives to come and, for the reported 15 thousand of us in the Gaelic Grounds privileged to witness it live, a fabled moment to recount by the firesides for ever and a day (the carpark chaotic mayhem having slipped its moorings in the memory banks for those who suffered same – was 2 hours getting out of Castlebar myself after the Rossie loss – again down to the complacent ineptitude of our guardians in blue!)..Stephen Coen – his best performance in the Green and Red – that great confidently taken point after a flowing move, ‘box to box’ in link play, tackling, marking and turnovers, great to see the ‘damned-with-faint-praise-monkey’ off his back; and Fionn Mc Donagh, while he didn’t get his customary brace of first half scores, did all of the movement and tracking required of his position and was a great ‘out’ for Clarke’s shorter kick outs in the second half linking well with Donie further up the rightside ; and Cillian’s long lay off has recharged him totally – his set piece accuracy back to his best and his in-play performance a real leading of the line, sharp, and ravenous!

  61. So proud of this mayo team. Just when you think they have no more to give they come up with a performance like that. Only spoiler for us was that bloody na Piarsaigh car park! Didn’t get out of there until after 11. At least we were buoyed by the win – the Galway lads had to negotiate that and the loss. I really hope we have enough in the tank for Kerry – that 3rd quarter won’t do against them and it was worrying to see how static Aidan O’Shea was against Cooke who got 4 points off him. The warm up was very interesting to watch – Galway’s was long and they were out nearly an hour before the game whereas Mayo’s warm up seemed very short – they only came out 20 mins before throw in and looked all the sharper for it! Great to see Keegan was ok and Cillian looks almost back to his best. I hope Paddy Durcan’s hamstring won’t keep him out long but i reckon he’ll miss the Kerry game. Game management has to be high on the “to do list” for James Horan this week. Super 8s here we come!

  62. Watching James Carr’s goal over and over and it just gets better each time I see it 🙂 Galway defenders were really taken by surprise when he turned on the after burners. Fear of the black card allowed us see such skill.. brilliant stuff

  63. We had a lot of excellent performers yesterday and the scoreline probably doesn’t reflect that! A lot of talk about Farragher from Galway people but Harry didn’t give him an inch. He then bossed Comer after half time. 3 cynical fouls by Comer when he came on but no action taken from Joe! Barrett, Boyle and Higgins may have miles on the clock but are flying. Paddy Durcan outstanding on Walsh and set up 3 or 4 scores too. Stephen Coen kept Brannigan out of the game in the 1st half, then quitened Cooke in the 2nd. Some great flicks and tricks from the forwards. Darren getting better all the time and James with a goal of the season. Cillian showed his quality too and that game should bring his sharpness on a tonne.

Negatives would be Aidan losing Cooke in the 1st half and some of our subs struggled in the 2nd half.

Where’s that Galway poster from earlier in the week saying the pendulum was swinging back towards them?! 🙂

Only 30k capacity in killarney these days I hear. Make sure to snap up the tickets when they go on sale.

  64. What a win one of the sweetest ever. Killarney here we come. On the traffic was back in Dublin at 11 parked near McDonalds might have exceeded the limit once or twice but that sounds like a total mare Galway gardaí perhaps! I think Paddy would get my motm hope he is ok. Can’t wait for Sunday.

  65. I still cannot get over that andy was left on the bench and evan regan brought on! I feel andy would have 100% brought more to the forwards especially that late in the game.

  66. Regan was brought on as more of a half forward to get stuck in and win breaking ball. Andy wouldn’t have been able to do that role.

  67. Well done to the team and management great performance all round.

Huge performances from Clarke, Durcan on Walsh and all 3 of our full forward line. Carr seems to be a real powerhouse
    with great natural footballing ability.

i don’t remember us ever having as many good players missing Ruane and Doc and still other lads outside the panel with loads of talent Hanley, Irwin etc and the other young lads coming up there is scope for some serious tilts at the all ireland’s over the next 2-3 years

  68. Ya know what really impressed me ? Is the thought that when we kick the ball into the forwards more often than not they are winning their own ball and that they will take their scores very pleasing .The first 20 mins killed Galway they could not get up to the tempo at all .It was the first time in a long time that I felt at half time that no matter what we were not going to lose .Id feel more wary about Donegal than I would about Kerry .Downfalls pace in transition is savage but anyway it’s Kerry next. What was it Colm Parkinson aka Wolly sheep said about us heading into the Galway game ? ” Dead men walking ” He really doesn’t know Mayo .Onwards we go !!!!

  69. Great win but Kerry in Killarney are a serious step up.
We will struggle with them although we are very sharp coming into it so that may help.

  70. David Clarke, surely, surely has some sort of record for inter county penalty saves at this stage?

  71. And the exciting thing now is three teams (probably) in green and gold….each with their own history. Bring on the red and green !!

  72. Put simply, MissMayo, Andy wasn’t needed last night. No point bringing him on then when Galway’s discipline was shot and their ‘play’ had descended into all that agricultural rough-housing. The upside for Andy is that he’ll have had a two-week break before Kerry and if there’s one man the locals won’t want to see arriving at Killarney next weekend it’s one Andy P Moran. Conor Loftus and Fergal Boland also got the night off and they could well be needed then too. Clever rotation.

  73. mighty win just mighty!!! did anyone notice Lee pulling up when running down pitch in dying minutes? hope I’m wrong…..

  74. That’s correct, Rasta Joe – Ger is on the podcast as well (out lunchtime or so) and he expands on this point James made post-match. Ger reports that he said Mattie Ruane might possibly feature too before the Super 8s are over.

  75. I feel your pain, Frannie Moran, and all others who were stuck for ages in the car park at Na Piarsaigh. I was there too! But in my case, and you’re not going to like this, it took us no more than 15 minutes to get out! Mind you, it was after 10.30 before we got back there, as I did the post-game audio, some post-game podcast chat and then got the match report written and up on the blog before leaving the Gaelic Grounds. I’d agree that the egress arrangements were shambolic, not from the club where everything was arranged perfectly but the Guards should have been down at the lights keeping the traffic moving. That’s where the choke-point was.

  76. Thanks WJ – makes sense when you put it like that! My OH is from Kerry and as usual is extremely confident in overcoming mayo with ease. I think Kerry while they have fantastic forwards are lacking in all other areas of the field. It will be tight and again come down to goals (imo) but i really feel we can put it up to this Kerry team who are held in much higher esteem than us as “all ireland contenders” despite their showing against Cork and having lost to us twice in the league.

  77. Was it my imagination or were we denied a penalty in the second half? I thought Boyle was shouldered in the back in the square while heading for goal.

  78. I agree with the points being made regarding Regan. I don’t really have any trust in him being brought on when we need to close a game out. How many more chances will he get? He’s just not strong enough to ride tackles and this is compounded by his tendency to try chancey shots when we should be retaining the ball/only shooting very high percentage shots. He came on last night and kicked a very speculative effort wide after we had done very well holding the ball and working it around to the space. He had a similar cameo against Down. It shows headlessness, and I worry when he comes on.

Treacy was poor as well when he came on, two bad turnovers. One in particular was criminal – he was trying to run out of defense past two Galway players and was robbed in the tackle before he reached halfway. That could have been catastrophic, turning the ball over like that while trying to close out a game can be the catalyst for collapse.

I hate being critical of the lads, but that kind of stuff is not what All Ireland contenders should be doing. I’m more inclined to cut Treacy some slack as he hasn’t been in the position before this year, but he needs to learn that he’s too slight to be trying to skin lads coming out with the ball at inter county level.

  79. I think Carr’s second goal was the best goal I have ever seen live in nearly 60 years going to mayo matches I was fortunate enough to be in the north stand overlooking the 45 meter line. I watched it online. A good few times. And I think it must be a candidate for goal of the year. Well done young James. As regards the traffic we left cork at 3 hoping to get the second half of the ladies match. A certain brother advised us to go under the tunnel and then turn off of course we didn’t make the first turnoff and then could see a nasty traffic accident had taken place We ended up in bunratty where we picked up a man who works as a tour guide. I kid you not. We could see the tailback. Our guide took us the scenic route through Davy Fitzgerald country. He told us he lived off the Ennis road so when a Garda told us that we could only go up a particular road the man in the back seat told him he was a local resident. Garda was not too sure about the two boys in front wearing green and red jerseys but we still got to park on the footpath about 500 metres from the pitch and it was just gone 6 o’clock. My. Sincere condolences to those of you stuck in the car park for ages. The match result is the memory of the night. Looking forward to next Sunday. And finally Willie joe you are a great man to organize this fabulous blog. Up mayo

  80. Our challenge for the last 3 years was to beat Galway.

There must be a sense of satisfaction amoung all involved this morning after achieving that aim.

Kerry, having been wounded by us already this year, will be fired up to put us back in our box like they did in last year’s league game.

The team that wants it more is going to be in with a great shout of the semi Finals.

  81. Great great win. Warriors everywhere last night, and great to see the forwards being so incisive. Horan has them in good place and another month of football to come.

  82. Right here goes………….I’m increasingly optimistic IF we can just get over the super 8s…………next weekend is huge . Win that and …………

    Ydays game
Clarke – nobody around me felt he wouldn’t save the penalty. That’s the confidence he exudes to the whole team. That can’t be quantified. That’s why playing hennekky at any point over him is insane imo.

Full back line – much better . Prob not Barrett’s best day at the office but still did ok. Higgins much better despite his propensity to give me heart attacks by “marking ” 10 years in front. Teams have identified it too. Harrison excellent.

Half back line – Paddy much improved . Boyler outstanding but must never ever shoot again 😀 Donie- did what Donie does – hugely important player

Midfield – AOS effective without being outstanding . Need to keep him gift !!!!!! Stephen Coen- very very good and like Donie could be hugely important. Thought the world would end when he scored though :@

Half forward line- Kevin Mc where he must be played . Brilliant . I wonder if he is fully fit though
    Doc- excellent second half
Fionn – quieter than usual but he is also strong and a great option from kickouts

    Full forward line
Not much to say. Outstanding. Options we have needed in AI finals are now there and free up Cillian even more too. I hope they get a chance to show it ……….

Horan – set the team up perfectly . Hopefully Kevin Mc is left where he is now . Use of subs still questionable . Not sure what Regan offers except for crazy shots at important times

  83. The the fact that the next run of games are predictable is huge, and hopefully we can leave behind some of the chaos (we’ll hold on to a bit) of the qualifiers.
Squad depth is really showing. James Horan is showing a real ruthlessness in picking players and pulling players off. But I do get the sense it’s more rotation and knowing when players are flagging etc. He’s the boss and the lads are fighting for him. Dare I say his game management is improving too but tougher games await, beginning with the Yerras next week.
Great to know its Mayo they wanted to play and that the red carpet will be rolled out for them.

  84. How on earth did Donie not get a penalty?
Clear charge on him from their full back
They went up and got 2 scores and the pen straight after as well

    God bless Clarke

  85. It’s not your imagination, Diehard. Donie’s one looked bolted-on to me – though Rob disagreed, he felt it was a shoulder – but there was no doubt at all about Boyler’s. Clear shunt in the back and floored in the square. McQuillan was appalling from start to finish. We’re due a decent ref next weekend, having now survived him and Deegan on successive Saturdays!

  86. How did we not get two penalties? From where i was sitting it looked like a clear push and charge into Boyle and donies back. Mcquillian was halfway down the pitch at the time, didn’t even arse himself running down to it! I heard Walshe blaming the ref after the game, I think it had more to do with you persisting with 13 men behind the ball when you were 7 points down Kevin. Who got sent off for Galway? Ian Burke was one.

  87. So is it Kerry away next weekend.
Meath/Clare in Croker the following weekend.
    A free weekend.
Then August bank holiday weekend we have Donegal at home
    ???
Trying to organize the less important things in life like family and work.

  88. A 3 point hammering. Well done to players and management for getting the intensity and gameplan spot on. Granted Galway played way below par last night and just have not been able get themselves back this season to the level that they were at for much of last year. I was expecting a much stronger performance from them last night. Credit our lads for taking full advantage and going at them like demons. Agree that the link play in the forward line was sublime and the combo O’Connor, Coen and Carr looks really effective. Defensively we were looked way more organised with Boyler sweeping. Clarkie also deserves huge credit for this victory – one massive catch over the heads of several Galway men in the first half, not to mention the penalty save. If only Na Pairsaigh parking management was as organised….11pm when we got out and 1am when home….if only they were as slow at taking our fivers !!

  89. Boyler’s should definitely have been a penalty. I couldn’t understand it. Another thing I don’t get is why Galway still got their free resulting in their goal after their man black carded. Surely the free should have been rescinded even if a legitimate one? Nobody mentioning it so I’m obviously way off the mark.

  90. My Galway ‘other half’ was worried even before the game begun. She noted the Mayo warmup was much more intense than the lethargic Galway!
Thankfully, she was right and that certainly carried through to a scintillating first 20 mins.
My own clubman Carr – what a performance and player of the future!
Only downer for me too unfortunately was that bloddy Piarsiagh car park!
True, the club were well organized but they obviously were not communicating with the Gardai at the junction. Surely they are used to this situation with all the recent Limerick hurling games?
Anyway, rolll on the Yerra’s – Maigh Eo Abu!

  91. I’ve only read 5 comments, but fair play to Tuam Star coming on here after a defeat, not easy. Nice words from the man. As sure as the sun rises in the East, Galway will be back. On we roll to Killarney, will be epic.

Would also like to wish the American supporter who flew home for the game, well. Hope you enjoyed it. Your one of us, all in this together, Mayo till we die.

  92. That was a cracker yesterday and by the sound of rte s sports coverage, much of the country are happy to see mayo into the last 8. I think it s the Irish times have it by stating that mayo are puttin the super into super 8 ! That they were badly missed last year with all that goes with themAnd best of all is that We have another month of it now if nothing else, at the very least. What a belter next weekend in store!!

  93. GalwayviaBallina agree about Carr. Reminds me of Pearse Hanley a fella with self belief and massive raw talent.i didn’t agree with some of Horans tactics back the years in big games but he seems to be brilliant at bringing players through. McDonagh/Ruane/Carr this year is huge progress

  94. What time did some of ye get out of that Na Piarsiagh car park? I was home at 10:30 but seen somewhere people were still in Limerick traffic at that time.

  95. Our bus was parked in Na Piaraiagh, got back to it at about 9, waiting for a few and we were out the gate at 9.35. Someone on the bus got a call at 10.50 from someone that was parked behind us, there were still there waiting to move, we were in Ballindine!
What a match though! Carr Carr Carr!! Our Boyler looked like a man posessed too 🙂 I was really getting worried with all our injuries mounting up, thinning the squad out, the qualifier route might just be too much for us this year. I really should know now though, this is MAYO, we’re only starting getting going……

  96. Walter White. It is a junction with working lights and the Garda on duty made a balls of directing traffic. Most of the forty minutes it took me to travel fifty yards she had traffic moving on the road we were trying to gain access to. The lights are timed surely to let more than ten cars out over a forty minute period. Not rocket science.

  97. That was tough on Clare. The Super 8s could prove a rude awakening for Meath. Mind you, the last time we beat the Royals in the Championship was the 1951 All-Ireland final.

  98. Folks, a piece of advice next time we’re playing in Limerick. Park out the Old Cratloe Road. 15 minutes walk to the ground but you’ll be on the dual carriageway 5 minutes after getting back to car. I go to a lot of games in Thomond Park over the winter & have never been held up. I know it’s being wise after the event & not much good to those of you held up last night, but just keep in mind for future reference.

  99. @Skorzenzy. I was there. I appreciate what you are saying however having a few hundred cars in a field with no organisation in regard to getting them out is madness. There was cars coming from every which angle at the exit. It should have been decided into sections with lanes for driving…that’s not fucking rocket science either.

  100. Sill buzzing after that.

Watching the game back there is plenty to say, but most of it has been covered well already above. From the moment the ball was thrown in it was clear the lads weren’t for being bullied this time. They were cynical when they needed to be and there was great intensity in the game. I thought Stephen Coen was really solid and got a beautiful point. Cillian was superb; never mind his scores, the amount of scores he contributed to was unbelievable. Never doubted for a second David Clarke would save that penalty, though he did put the heart across us a few minutes later with that run out of goal. What can we say about James Carr?! That goal was poetry in motion and I will watch it back in the winter months long after our campaign is over and it will make my heart burst all over again.

I thought we were solid all over the pitch but still, we are a bit too easily carved open down the middle and there is work to do. Great however to see we managed that without Andy and now he will be raring to go in Killarney. Interesting to see that Fergal Boland didn’t even make the bench (is he injured) and that Conor Loftus didn’t get a look-in either. Also interesting that three of our six subsitutions were made after 70 minutes.

Joe McQuillan’s refereeing is utterly inept, but we knew that long before today. Galway really showed themselves up and let themselves down again in the last few minutes. It was absolutely sweet to dump them out and I am still of the opinion that we couldn’t beat them by enough or often enough.

Unlike in previous recent encounters however we didn’t experience any unpleasantness from the neighbours in our corner; they were gracious to a tee even though they probably didn’t have it easy around us. Some even wished us luck! So that was a pleasant element of the day; I get the sense some of them were relieved that it will probably result in a change in management, which i think is legitimate. While we are (happily) not saints ourselves, I would hope that any change in management will result in a cleaning up of their act.

One thing that was irritating yesterday was the fact that no provision seemed to have been made for season-ticket holders who brought kids (without season tickets) to the game. The kids weren’t getting into the Mackey Stand, yet as far as I know (and I’m open to correction, although it’s what we were told) you couldn’t get a season ticket scanned over at the North Stand. What were people meant to do – leave the kids outside? Not the first ground this has happened in but there is usually a bit of common sense applied. Most people would have been happy enough to go into the other stand.

Getting home was a dream last night. We decided last minute on the way in to avoid the Na Piarsaigh car park and swung left instead to the soccer pitch beside the Greenhills Hotel. We were out the road in 20 mins with no hold-ups. I’m sure that’s of great comfort to those of ye who were stuck 😉 It’s just a good job we hadn’t lost the game!

Looking forward to Killarney now; the next few weeks are going to be very interesting indeed.

  101. Walter White. I was parked on the road adjacent to the Na Pairsigh car park and was about car nine or ten in the queue. I did not get into the field they called a car park. The lights would have had me out in five minutes max. Garda on duty decided forty five.

  102. Well then Skorzeny you weren’t where the real mayhem was going on. 45 mins would have been great for the people who were tgere two hours!

  103. Well then I suppose I’ll just have to follow you anymore and suffer real heartache. Then I can ring Joe Duffy.

  104. Anyones attendane updated yet?

    Anne Marie
We were in a similar bind with kids……….we had 2 adult season tickets and 2 juvenile match tickets. We were with my friend who was the same. Luckily we met a few from home who were going to buy North stand tickets. So we took them and gave them our cards for the Mackey. I would love to have been in the Mackey for that game as atmosphere was much better but c’est la vie. It worked out anyway.

Yew Tree I left Na Piarsaigh car park at 1055pm. The excuse about the lights is missing the point. The lack of any markings whatsoever within the field meant it was VERY dangerous coming out. As I said there was one serious tip right in the middle involving 3 cars. Nobody was willing to take responsibility by the looks of it( hard to blame them) and the cops were there as long as we were and still there trying to sort it when we were leaving.
Felt very sorry for the people involved especially as they were all Galway supporters so that was the last thing they needed!!!!!!!
I had not intended on parking there but the crash on the motorway cost me about 20 minutes that meant I couldn’t get into the housing estate and was turned back at the junction by the cops and Na Piarsaigh was the handiest. I knew when I was parking it would take a while to get out. But not THAT long.
    Ya live and learn

  105. This is exactly the point I was making KM re Na Piarsaigh…anyhow as you said lesson learned. Was so happy we had won it made it tolerable:-).
On a seperate note I presume tickets for next Sunday will be sold in usual way..they are not available online.

  106. Walterwhite/Skorzeny – enough is enough about the parking in Limerick. Parking in Killarney is what needs to be focused on now!

  107. Sorry Willie Joe…you have more for doing than reading petty arguments…agreed.

  108. As regards the parking at Na Piarsaigh, I sat in the car with the young lad for about 40 mins after the game and soon realized that we were going nowhere for a good while. So, we upped sticks and headed back towards town for the grub. By the time we returned the traffic was moving and we made it out at 10;50pm. Hit Mulroys roundabout in Castlebar 2 hours later and the young lad was panned out for the whole journey. Not too bad.
I was more annoyed at myself for going in to the Car Park as I had enough negative experiences trying to get out of Clonliffe College. Getting in is no problem, getting out though is another.
Anyway, I would have stayed until 2 in the morning after that performance. I’d nearly have walked home if I had to. It was worth it.
Now, where to park in Killarney.
