Mayo News football podcast 2018 – club championship semi-finals

The weekend just gone featured a hectic two days of club championship action within the county at both Senior and Intermediate levels. So hectic in fact that the Mayo News football podcast set up its temporary HQ for the weekend high up in the stand at MacHale Park to catch the best of the action in the SFC and IFC semi-finals.

Host Rob Murphy and I are joined by Ger Flanagan of the Mayo News to introduce the weekend’s football activity. That starts off with the Senior semi-finals on Saturday night where Rob and I talk you through the Breaffy/Ballaghaderreen clash, following which we hear from Breaffy joint manager Peter Ford. Next it’s the meeting of Castlebar Mitchels and Ballintubber where Rob and I are joined by Edwin McGreal of the Mayo News as we describe a compelling contest that ended in stalemate after extra-time.

Rob, Ger and I are back at MacHale Park early on Sunday afternoon to watch Burrishoole get the better of The Neale in the first of the day’s IFC semi-finals. Ger catches up with victorious Burrishoole manager Colm McManamon after that one. Rob and I take you through the ding-dong battle that unfolded in the Belmullet/Kiltimagh semi-final, following which Ger nabs Belmullet’s Chris Barrett for a quick post-game chat.

But that’s not all! Rob even finds the time to shoot the breeze with Davitts’ Mickey Conroy, asking him how he felt having, the previous evening, landed the vital score that preserved his club’s Senior status while consigning Crossmolina to Intermediate level for next year.

This bumper episode of the Mayo News football podcast club series is now online and is available to listen to on iTunes and SoundCloud. You can also listen to it on SoundCloud on both the Mayo News website and here on the blog.

  1. Anybody know the story with tickets for the New York game in May. I don’t want to book trip and end up not going to the game. The ground only holds 2000 to 3000 supporters. With corporate dinner planned if all attendees of that were to receive a ticket for game it would leave none for regular travellers? Can tickets be purchased in advance or have they to be purchased on the day?

  2. Ah great to hear that. He was on 6 o’clock show ( b flynn and brolly will have hissy fits!!!)

  3. Intermediate final will be a good one! Wouldn’t mind seeing either one get over the line, belmullet will have to be favorites but Burrishoole have some sprightly forwards. Belmullet have more county caliburexI believe it’s Liam OMalleys 6th county final. A great servant, I’m sure he would like a winners medal at this stage. I’ll come home for this one! Was hoping it would be bank holiday weekend.
I think castlebar will get over the line in replay. Breaffy will be licking their lips!
Love the page Willie joe. Long time watcher new poster!

  4. Season tickets do not count stateside. Last time out we bought tickets at the gate, $20 I think. The game does not count as your season ticket attendance.

  5. Almost twenty eight hours gone by and nobody has posted! Things have got very peaceful since James’ appointment!!
