Ahead of the start of a new season of football, it’s time for the return of some Mayo GAA-related audio chat. Yes, folks, the Mayo News football podcast is back for another year, taking you through all the action as it unfolds in the months ahead.
In this first episode of 2018, host Rob Murphy and I shoot the breeze about this and that, while Mike Finnerty has an in-depth discussion with Mayo manager Stephen Rochford on how things stand as a new year of football is about to get underway. Mike and Rob also go through the list of new faces who are set to feature for the county in this month’s FBD League and much more besides.
This edition of the podcast is now available on SoundCloud and iTunes. You can also listen to it here on the site, either by clicking the player below or the one on the sidebar to the right. Enjoy!
Great podcast to start the year off. Thanks to all involved.
Rochford sounds up to his eyes with his young kids in that podcast. FBD final is penciled in for middle of Feb between round 3 and 4 of the NFL i understand.
Great podcast thanks Willie Joe, Rob and Mike.
Mayo news have the injury report. Chris Barrett (minor knee op), Lee Keegan rehab hip, Donal Vaughan hip means all three are likely to miss several games in the league.
Our league backline then will be something like:
Harrison McDonagh Higgins
Durcan Coen Nally
Subs (Hall, ODonoghue, Plunkett)
I’d love to see Shane Nally get a jersey. Outstanding for Garrymore, so physically developed now and will kick 7-8 points a season.
Stephen Rochfords experimental squad for the upcoming FBD game. I hope this link works, it’s on RTE sports page if it doesn’t. Great to see KK back lining out and all the newbies too : https://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/2018/0103/930926-mayo-assemble-brand-new-squad-for-fbd-league-games/
JP What about Crowe Akram Newcome. Cunniffe. Duffy etc
@PJ, Caolan Crowe will go close, Stephen Duffy will go close.
Donie Newcombe was solid for Castlebar this year.
A bit early for Shairoze Akram and Seamus Cunniffe compared to the above.
You have Colm Boyle will be around for the league.
These hip injuries are a bit worrying, especially Leroy’s.
Look at Andy Murray at the minute, whose tennis career seems to be on the line. Think there were some other GAA guys whose names escape me for the moment.
catcol i think its Conor Mc Manus
I’m glad to see Adam Gallagher mentioned in the Fbd possibles He had a great league about 3years ago
Well done WJ a busy year on this site, great for information, speaking of info What time is the game on sunday and where ? Thanks
Thanks, Mike – it’s on at MacHale Park, throw-in 2pm.
