Minors in action on Sunday

With all the focus, understandably, on the county’s involvement in this year’s All-Ireland Senior football final, it’s easy to forget that this isn’t the only Championship match Mayo are involved in this coming weekend.

On Sunday afternoon at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan the Mayo Minors take on Sligo in the Connacht MFC semi-final. The game throws in at 2pm and it’s a behind-closed-door fixture.

The match is, though, being streamed live by Connacht GAA. Tickets for the game cost €7.50 and you’ll find further details here.

Ger Flanagan in this week’s Mayo News (paper and digital variants) has a good preview piece on Sunday’s match. As Ger states in that piece, this is a nicely balanced Mayo team, with a number of the lads who featured last year still eligible to line out again this year while there’s also plenty of talent coming through to taste inter-county action at this level for the first time.

The winners on Sunday will meet either Galway or Roscommon in the Connacht MFC early in the New Year. Galway got the better of Leitrim by 2-17 to 0-12 in the quarter-final last weekend and their semi-final meeting with Roscommon takes place, also at Bekan, tomorrow evening at 7.30pm. That match is being streamed live by Connacht GAA as well.

Best of luck to Tomás Morley and the team on Sunday. Up Mayo.
