Narrow loss to Tyrone in camogie

According to the old saying, goals win games. That’s usually the case but it wasn’t so in this afternoon’s Camogie League Division 3A match against Tyrone at Tooreen. The Green and Red found the net no fewer than three times but superior point-taking by the visitors earned them a four-point win on a scoreline of 0-18 to 3-5.

By the look of the live stream of the game, which is available to watch back on Facebook here, the conditions were wet and, I guess, none too mild either at Adrian Freeman Park this afternoon. Despite this, the game appeared to be an entertaining one, which remained competitive to the finish.

The home side had the better of the early exchanges and, when they bagged their second goal fifteen minutes in, it gave them a three-point advantage. That, though, was their final score of the opening half, with the O’Neill County tacking on five points without reply before the break, into which they took a two-point lead.

Tyrone added two more points to their lead early in the second half but, ten minutes in, a third Mayo goal cut the gap back to a single point. We never managed to draw level, however, and Tyrone’s ability to keep adding to their points tally saw them home by a four-point margin at the finish.

Hard luck to the camogie team on today’s narrow loss. Next up for them is another home match, this time against Kildare, this day week.
