It’s been a cracking campaign with plenty of ups and downs but like the on-field action this year’s NFL prediction mini-league competition is now over and we have a winner. A large round of applause, please, for Conor McGinty from Achill who emerged from the fray after yesterday’s final whistle at the top of the prediction pile.
Conor didn’t have it all his own way in the final round. Shane Tuohy in second place went for broke with his final round of predictions but came up agonisingly short – shades of Dean Rock and that last-second free coming back off the post – losing out by just a single point. These two finished well ahead of the chasing pack.
My own spring campaign was a disaster from start to finish – I thought we’d beat the Dubs, I never entertained any fears that Cavan would turn us over and then I expected Dublin to complete their five-in-a-row yesterday. 51st place is where that kind of reasoning gets you. The young buck did better but, like Tyrone, his League form dipped sharply down the closing stretch and he had to be content with 28th spot at the finish.
Thanks all for taking part. Now we can all retreat into the long grass and start hatching those cunning prediction plans for the summer. Here’s the final leaderboard from this year’s NFL prediction mini-league:
Well done to all those who made the top 38. . I found it really hard to stay with the leaders, those Roscommon referees are doing my head in.
Congrats to Conor and hard luck to Shane. So very close in the end. Overall I still made the top 20 window so happy enough with my progress this year.
Well done to all those who made the top 65 or thereabouts. It’s a bit like the playing …. Plenty of the ball but hard luck on the score board! However, there was fun in the trying and there’s hope in that there future…..I hope.
