Now that the politicians have (momentarily at least) stopped their jibber-jabber, there’s some headspace to consider other matters. Ahead of our bottom-of-the-table, basement battle against the next-door neighbours in Tuam on Sunday, what better to talk about than our complete record against them in league and championship down the years? Okay then, here goes.
We’ve met the Tribesmen far more often than we’ve met any other county and our league and championship meetings now number 123, 43 in the former and 80 in the latter. Taking the lot together, we’re marginally ahead at the minute, having won 58, lost 55 and drawn 10 on an aggregate score of 154-897 to 122-879. Goals win games and all that.
In terms of recent results, we’ve a good record against them too, having last lost to them in the 2008 Connacht final. Since then we’ve beaten them twice in the NFL and once in the championship and if you include our FBD final win over them last year as well, this means that we’re aiming for five wins on the spin against them at St. Jarlath’s Park on Sunday.
I normally insert a table with these kind of posts showing all the results but in this instance the damned thing is just too big so I’ve had to put it here instead.
