Parke GAA Club have had a good year of it, ending it as they do as the reigning Connacht junior champions. Far from sitting on their laurels, however, the club are gearing up for a big bash this coming Saturday night (November 27th) which is being held in in the Fáilte Suite of the Welcome Inn Hotel in Castlebar where throw-in has been fixed for 9 pm.
The do is to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the club’s existence and to launch their 40th anniversary commemorative book. Entitled ‘CLCG Fóchumann An Pháirc – Ceathaireacha Bliain ag Fás’ or ‘Parke GAA Club – 40 Years Growing’, the book is apparently chock-full of pictures going back over the four decades of the club’s existence. It also delves deeper into the past, going well beyond the era of dodgy haircuts to look at the origins of football in the Parke area in the Thirties and Forties. The book will be accompanied by a DVD which has recordings of many of the important finals won and lost over the period of the club’s existence. The club’s new website is also set to be launched on the night.
So, if you’ve nothing to do this coming Saturday evening once X Factor is over, you might want to put this event in your diary. Tickets cost €25, for which you get not only the trip down Parke’s memory lane but also a buffet meal and entertainment from a band called Na Ciotógaí.
