Right, we’re back in the pot in the morning, with the draw for Round 3 of the qualifiers taking place on RTÉ Radio One’s Morning Ireland show, just after the 8.30am news bulletin.
I’ve just noticed that the similar poll I ran ahead of the Round 2 draw resulted in Down attracting the least number of votes ahead of us being paired with them. Coincidence? Straw in the wind?
Let’s see if the same happens this time. C’mon, now, let’s be having you.
Who do you want us to draw in Round 3?
- Offaly (52%, 245 Votes)
- Westmeath (11%, 50 Votes)
- Clare (10%, 47 Votes)
- Tyrone (10%, 45 Votes)
- Kildare (8%, 39 Votes)
- Laois (8%, 37 Votes)
- Armagh (1%, 6 Votes)
Total Voters: 469

Offaly suits me fine.
John Maughan would hardly turn on his home county in the qualifiers.
I voted for Laois but Offaly in Tullamore would be fine for me. Apparently it a great ground and I have never been there
Offaly/westmeath/laois
Although Clare is a handy spin too!
Not Tyrone anyways
Would also rather avoid Kildare or Armagh
Drawing Kildare would generate some amount of scutter talk that we don’t need
Offaly in Tullamore would be my No 1 draw.
Tyrone please
I remember been in Croker when Laois put it up to us some years ago. It ended up a draw.
I actually think there was a treble header in Croke park that day. I remember Tipperary playing in a minor hurling game followed by kilkenny in the senior hurling and then ourselves Laois went at it.
Ross Munnelly was going strong for Laois at the time. His father was a Crossmolina man. There have been some great footballers for other counties whose parents hailed from mayo.
Well nobody will want to draw us, let’s face it.
I see it as follows
We would hammer either of laois, westmeath, offaly, clare
We would beat kildare or armagh but their forwards will ask hard questions of us.
If it’s us and Tyrone then that’s a 50 50 game with everything on the line
#supermac we never hammer anybody!
I was in Newry,we need to step it up and aswell the subs.Wouldnt mind another shot at Kildare
Offaly would be ideal but it’s beginning to look like Laois which would be okay.
Let Tyrone draw Armagh away from home.
Anyone but Tyrone especially since they appear to have returned to type with the mass blanket defence
I voted Kildare on the basis that we have a score to settle with them. Hope it’s not in Newbridge though. Hopefully we can avoid Tyrone altgough I would still be confident.
As i said yesterday draw Laois,Westmeath or Offaly and Mayo will reach round 4, draw anyone else and i feel Mayo will make another round 3 exit.
We can possibly play in Castlebar, if we come out of the hat first and draw, either Div One, Tyrone, or Div Two, Kildare, Armagh or Clare! All the rest Westmeath, Laois or Offaly are Div Three and regardless of who is drawn out of the Hat first, if any of the last three are our opponents we will be on the road again…Fingers crossed….We have seen many of the highways and byways of Ireland this last few years…. Wouldn’t mind Mchale Park next Saturday,.. All of the seven possible opponents would prefer to meet us in their home Venue… I hope for a home Venue for once, it’s been a while since we drew a home Venue for a qualifer! Was it Derry in 2017?, since then we have played qualifers in Croke Park, Ennis, Limerick twice, Thurles, Newbridge or Nowhere and Newry..it has to be Castlebar’s turn soon!
Anyone but Tyrone and I never want to see Newbridge again either so maybe Offaly or Westmeath though Westmeath’s ground is probably the worst in the country I remember getting soaked wet there a few years ago at a league game it’s a depressing old place we were cruising to a win against them but they came back and got 2 soft goals and almost beat
Us
I’d be happy to play anyone as long as it’s not in McHale Park. Our form there is awful.
I voted for Kildare. Payback time. Surely the lads will be motivated. Also practically guarantees that it’ll be one of the games televised!
The thing is with McHale park although our form is rubbish there if we are to progress to super 8 we will have a massive game there (draw & beat Cavan in round four and it’s Dublin in castlebar I think )
I think Armagh would be more dangerous than Tyrone at this point in time. Tyrone aren’t going great at the moment, they laboured for a lot against Longford and I think we could handle them. Armagh are a real maverick side, with lethal forwards who can shoot the lights out. I’d worry about them getting a glut of goals with their directness. McGeeney is also very shrewd at setting teams up, much more flexible than Harte in that regard.
Offaly in Tullamore would be perfect, we’d get by them handy enough and O’Connor Park is a lovely ground, best outside of Croke Park in my view.
Not long to go now. Hope we avoid Tyrone at all costs, and also avoid MacHale park. Have a feeling it’ll be Laois!
Just to note in advance as well folks – repeat pairings are not allowed, meaning Laois can’t draw Westmeath. If they’re drawn together, the second team out will move to the next pairing.
It’s Armagh in Castlebar
F**k
The curse of the poll strikes again! In the poll ahead of the Round 2 draw it was Down who got the fewest votes, this time it was Armagh.
Ha ha harmagh….gulp!!
