Seeing as it’s the league, there’s a barrage of match reports to peruse if that’s what you’re into of a windy Monday morning. In no particular order, there are ones from RTÉ, BBC (which includes a short post-match audio piece with James McCartan), Mayo Advertiser, Irish Independent, Irish Times, Irish Examiner (this one is by Mike Finnerty), Belfast Telegraph, Hogan Stand and Sports News Ireland.
But that’s not all – here’s Mike Finnerty’s post-match audio report for the Mayo News and Colm Gannon also has post-match audio quotes from Andy Moran and James Horan.
James says he was very happy with Saturday night’s performance, in particular the level of effort shown by the lads. He points to the effectiveness of the switch in tactics for the second half where the half-backs pushed up on Marty Clarke and Danny Hughes and he singles out Ger Cafferkey (whom many thought didn’t have a great game – myself included) for praise. Sure enough: Clarke and Hughes (in particular the former) faded right out of it in the second half as the contest swung back in our favour.
James also confirms that Alan Freeman suffered a broken bone in his hand, a hugely unfortunate occurrence for one of our brightest performers on the night. I guess this means that we won’t see an awful lot more of him during the league but while this is a real shame, what’s more important is that he’s back and ready for the fray in time for the summer.
Can’t finish on a downer, though. Clips of Enda Varley’s wonder point and Andy Moran’s equally impressive late, late equaliser have been posted on YouTube – the perfect way to brighten up your Monday. Also, Setanta will be showing what I think are extended highlights of Saturday night’s game later on this evening, with separate showings at 5 pm and 8 pm.
Back later with prediction competition and mini-league stuff.
Something else from hoganstand about the weekend events. Its blog praises Andy Moran and says he is vital to the Mayo team. It also sticks the boot into Galway.

A good performance from Mayo considering the fact that Ronan McGarrity scored two goals for Down!!
