Rossies advance to U20 decider

Roscommon this evening advanced to the Connacht U20 Championship final, beating Sligo at Dr Hyde Park by 4-13 to 2-12.

Unlike last night’s tie between ourselves and Galway, this evening’s match was a fairly clear-cut affair. Roscommon were on top right from the off, bagging the first four points of the contest and going on to lead by 1-8 to 0-3 at half-time.

The Rossies pulled further away in the second half and while two goals by the Magpies kept the margin between the teams to respectable proportions, the home team were comfortable seven-point winners at the finish.

The U20 final has been confirmed for this night week (21st July) at MacHale Park. Throw-in then has been set for 7.30pm and I assume the decider will be streamed live by Connacht GAA.

  1. While showing great resilience to win the game, the lads have a lot of improving to do for the final. Scoring 2 points in a half in good conditions won’t win many games.

  2. Anyone know the story for tickets for the final next Wednesday?
    Surely 3500 tickets allowed

  3. If Mayo are to beat Roscommon they need to load up the team 5-12. That means tall players and powerful break winners.
In my view Roscommon have the better shooters so Mayo need to win 60% of all kickouts. I don’t think we’ll beat Roscommon looking to contain.
In my view Frank Irwin to middle third, start Conor Reid and put Ruari Keane at 6.
Go after the game and put them on the back foot.
