Great service WJ, where can I find the group tables?
They’re on the Mayo GAA website, Jr. It takes a bit of rummaging to find them, though, as it’s not a well organised resource (to put it mildly). They’re also extremely touchy about anything being reproduced from it.
Thanks, I agree it is very badly organised.
Found it , takes some digging, should be up with the fixtures.
The Mayo GAA website is dreadful. How have we not moved on with the times?
There should be an App with fixtures, results, tables. It’s not difficult. Galway and other countries do it much better than we do. Madness.
@Willie Joe, is there any chance you could do a club section here on the blog? I get a pain in my head when I go on the official Mayo website.
If you could do something just all about club fixtures, results and tables. I know most people here like myself on the blog don’t follow Mayo club football to keenly, maybe a bit of a club championship that’s all. I think a man of your knowledge @Willie Joe of the club game along with Rob Murphy and Ed could put something brilliant together and make it easier for everyone. No better men for the job.
From what I can see the blog and the Mayo News are the main club media providers in the county.
And @Willie Joe you’re well rested after your 2 week holiday. No excuses!! Only joking, but it would be great if you could put something together. Thanks again.
Willie Joe, I agree that the Mayo Gaa Website is
very poorly organised – there is evidence that they
keep an eye on your blog , though- Aghamore are now above Ballyhaunis in their league table!!
Turfman, in fairness to the CB most county websites are a similar mess, at a recent CB meeting though upgrade to website is approved so hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later.
If look at Kerry, Tyrone or other sites the system used nationally to collate scores through Foireann seems to be what causes Issues.
Dublin due to there size are exempt from using it so there website is bit slicker with filters etc.
Galway filters since update are much improved, and think this could be Sportslomo that Mayo use also.
Also the Western People had serious coverage last few weeks on club games and reports, think all games covered. They have really upped their game. Theahref Pod even spoke of this on last week’s edition.
Their review for the weekends fixtures are out now free to air for those into pods.
I already provide details of club fixtures and results on the blog, turfman, along with info on ticketing etc. so I’m not sure what else you’d expect in that line. Tables are the responsibility of Mayo GAA and they don’t like me using their graphics (despite the fact that I’m promoting what they do – go figure that if you can!) so I don’t see myself redoing those tables myself. In any event, the group stages conclude this weekend and it’s knockout from then on.
I used be able to check much easier recent results from club, underage and schools on the Mayo gaa website. Then they changed the navigation and it made doing that much more laborious.
Jp, glad its just not me who finds checking the Mayo Gaa website a chore. Its badly in need of re vamp.
I agree that the Mayo Gaa site is hard to get around but as regards tables we’ve only had two rounds so it’s simple enough to work out the placings.
Some great matches coming this weekend. Breaffy v Mayo Gaels and Ballintubber v Garrymore should be spicy.
Westport, Ballina and Mitchels are likely to run riot?
Will be at the Aghamore/Knockmore game on Saturday which barring a monumental points swing or a Ballyhaunis win vs Castlebar should see Aghamore safe for another year. Maybe even a win (touch wood) and we could make knockouts. The other game I’m going to is on Sunday in Ballyhaunis. A winner takes all clash between Ballagh and Charlestown and for intensity and tension it could be the game of the weekend.
2 years ago today Tyrone beat us in the all Ireland final. Whatever about that final as long as I live I will never understand why James Horan took Alan Freeman off in the 2013 final V Dublin that was one that definetly got away
I was talking to a young Armagh fella the other day who is a mate of a Galway lad i know. I hadn’t met him before.
Inevitably we got onto the subject of Mayo and he was very well versed in our final defeats since 2012. He was extremely knowledgeable and was of the opinion that of all those games he thought the one we left behind was the 2017 final and pointed to the Donal Vaughan incident specifically. It was interesting to hear an outsiders view on everything.
I showed him the Colm Coyle equalising point in the 1996 final which was before this lad would have been born and he almost choked on his pint!
I always thought we could win the 2016 final. I had seen a bit of Dublin that year and thought we could rattle them. When you think we restricted them to 0-09 it was a travesty we didn’t win it but you couldn’t legislate for 1 own goal never mind 2.
The scoreboard at 30 minutes that day read Dublin 2-00 Mayo 0-04. You would never think the best team of all time would be scoreless themselves after 30 minutes of an All Ireland final on their neutral home ground.
New pod up on Patreon – Mike and Colm Boyle preview all the weekend’s Round 3 club Championship fixtures.
Mayoforever/Mind the House – I deleted that exchange between you as it was a bit of unnecessary argy-bargy. From my point of view, there was nothing at all wrong with the initial comment and I’ve left that up.
Very hard call the Intermediate championship.
Could be anyone of 5 teams,.
Think Louisburgh could be a good outside bet .
My Ball, I would consider any of the 8 teams in the intermediate quarter finals capable of winning it. It will all be on the day, the chances taken or not taken, the odd mistake. There are a few juicy games in the intermediate this weekend, hope the weather holds up and the crowds turn up to support the teams.
Willie Joe,The reason I responded in the manner I did was that Mind the House seemed to lay the blame for Mayo not winning in 2017 on the actions of Donal Vaughan – How would you feel if you were the player involved ??
Also this section is supposed to be devoted to the club championship.
@Rober .. Ballinrobe v Hollymount/Carramore should br interesting. I plan to go a see that one in Garrymore.
That’s not correct, Mayoforever, as all he did was point to that incident. Discussion of match incidents is allowed here as otherwise there wouldn’t be much discussion at all. You’re correct in that the topic wasn’t relevant to the club Championships but people tend to post off-topic stuff here regularly enough.
@Mayoforever
We had this last night. Not once did I lay the blame at Donal Vaughans door. I merely pointed out what an outsider had said.
For the record I thought Vaughan was a warrior of a player. We needed one or two more like him.
Willie Joe. I won’t post again on the subject and will disappear until January.
Apologies Mind the House if any offence caused –
We’re both on the same side!
