Right, the National League campaign is over and done with and the first shots in this year’s Championship are set to be fired this coming weekend. Time, then, to pull the shutters down on the poll that’s been running here for our Player of the League and to declare the winner.
In truth, no voting was needed to decide this one. Ryan O’Donoghue was, by any measure, our outstanding performer in this year’s National League. Voted Man of the Match on polls conducted here on the blog relating to the Monaghan, Kerry, Tyrone and Kildare games, the Belmullet player was also not just our top scorer in the spring campaign but was also joint top scorer in Division One.
It was always a racing certainty that Ryan would top the poll for our Player of the League and so he has, winning 60% of the vote. Next came Jordan Flynn, our most improved player this spring but now sadly sidelined arising from a foot injury picked up in the Division One final. Jordan polled 17% of the vote and he was followed by Matthew Ruane (9%), Rob Hennelly (7%) and Diarmuid O’Connor (6%).
Well done to all of them but particularly to Ryan after what was an exceptional League campaign for the highly talented and hugely committed All-Star forward. Here’s hoping for more of the same from him over the coming months in the Championship.
Congratulations,and well deserved
Championship is a very different ball game
Well done Ryan! Given he is a current All Star I don’t think he’ll have much problems with Championship.
Whats even more impressive is that he could have easily stepped back after last seasons disappointment but instead has pushed on and on top of Tommy Conroy’s injury has taken the added scoring pressure also. Looking forward to what he will produce in the Championship and excited for his link up with Cillian.
He will really excel in the championship
Excellent throughout the league, well deserved winner of the award. I’m not comparing Ryan to David Clifford just yet, but because he is our undoubted leader in the Full Forward line and a very deserved current All Star, Ryan is very likely to be double marked and/or a sweeper played in front of him for championship 2022.. I’ve no he’s up to the challenge!
Good man Ryan.
Ya, very well deserved by Ryan. Interesting to see who will be out chief free taker when Cillian (fingers crossed) gets back to approaching his form of the last decade.
Mouth watering prospects ahead when we get a few more first teamers back.
