Sligo team named

Sligo named their team yesterday afternoon for tomorrow’s Connacht SFC clash with our lads. Here it is:

Sligo (Connacht SFC quarter-final v Mayo, 26/6/2021): Eamonn Kilgannon (St Farnan’s); Ryan Feehily (St Mary’s), Eddie McGuinness (Tubbercurry), Evan Lyons (Shamrock Gaels); Keelan Cawley (Coolera/Strandhill, captain), Paul McNamara (St John’s), Darragh Cummins (Calry/St Joseph’s); Paddy O’Connor (St Farnan’s), Paul Kilcoyne (St Mary’s); David Quinn (Shamrock Gaels), Cian Lally (Drumcliffe/Rosses), Mikey Gordon (Easkey); Nathan Rooney (St Mary’s), Niall Murphy (Coolera/Strandhill), Seán Carrabine (Castleconnor).

The team named by Tony McEntee shows five changes from the side that fell heavily to Wexford in the Division Four Shield decider the weekend before last. Into the side for tomorrow come Ryan Feehily, Paul McNamara, Paddy O’Connor, David Quinn and Nathan Rooney, while out go John Carr, Conor McGovern, Peter Laffey, Red Óg Murphy and Peter Naughton.

Team captain Keelan Cawley – who, incidentally, also lined out for the Yeats County in the corresponding fixture back in 2010 – was a doubt for tomorrow’s game, as he picked up a knock shortly before half-time in that match against Wexford. The Coolera/Strandhill player has, though, recovered and lines out in his customary wing-back position.

  1. There’s some talk here in Sligo that there will be a change or two to that team before the start.
I don’t think it matters very much, I can’t see them being able to deal at all with the power and physicality of the Mayo lads.

  2. Over the last year poor James Horan has been vilified by some Knockmore people on social media. Anti Knockmore they wrote. Looking at Sligo team Horan seems to be proved right again.Just saying

  3. Might not be anti Knockmore but there’s a very good forward there…Naughten…..never gets a look in at County level…..

  4. Plenty good enough in my eyes at least, accurate off either foot, excellent free taker and can win his own ball. Anyone that goes to club games will see that he stands out. Maybe ask someone that has tried to mark him. Don’t think it’s an issue in Knockmore at all, but I also believe that Darren McHale(might start today), Aiden Orme and Colm Reape are also good enough. Others that really impressed me last year were James McCormack(hopefully will return from injury shortly), Conor Diskin and Swanee. There are others too, which shows that there is plenty of quality out there for management to choose from.

  5. Well well.the west is best. Naughton couldn’t get on the pitch even though Sligo beaten by 20pt Enough said.

  6. That my friend, is more of a reflection on the Sligo manager than anyone else. You might have noticed how well Darren McHale played in his first start today. Why was it his first start you should be asking? Orme was ahead of other that are starting too, but you’ll learn that too in time if you ever get to see him play.
