Team for LGFA match against Galway named

We’ve named our team to play Galway in Round 2 of the LGFA National Football League on Saturday. This game throws in at Duggan Park in Ballinasloe at 3.15pm that day and here’s the starting fifteen we’ve named for it:

Mayo (LGFA NFL Division One v Galway, 27/1/2024): Lisa Reid (Bohola Moy Davitts); Lucy Wallace (Burrishoole), Nicola O’Malley (Westport), Saoirse Sally (Westport, captain); Kathryn Sullivan (Castlebar Mitchels), Danielle Caldwell (Castlebar Mitchels), Jenna Mortimer (Hollymount); Aoife Geraghty (Westport), Hannah Reape (Knockmore); Fionnula McLaughlin (Westport), Alana Fitzpatrick (Claremorris), Maria Cannon (Burrishoole); Tara Needham (Louisburgh), Fiona McHale (Carnacon), Lisa Cafferky (Kilmovee Shamrocks).

So it’s an unchanged team from the one that started against Meath in the Dome last Sunday. Prior to throw-in that day we made two changes to the starting fifteen, with Nicola O’Malley and Alana Fitzgerald coming in, replacing Emily Reape and Sinéad Walsh respectively. Both Nicola and Alana are named to start again on Saturday.

If you’re planning on going to the game, the link for tickets is here. The match is being shown live on TG4.

Both teams are aiming to get off the mark in this year’s NFL on Saturday. We lost to Meath by six points in that Dome encounter on Sunday, while Galway were beaten by Cork by four points the same day.

The best of luck to Liam McHale and his team this weekend.

  1. Fantastic to have the national league starting this weekend. Lots of interesting games in all divisions.
I’ll stick to my annual hope that Mayo use the league to blood as many new players as possible ( even at the risk of relegation) in the hope that we will be as knowledgeable about our panel and peak for championship.
Looking forward to the match preview…

  2. Great win.
Inexperienced finish but great to get points on the board away from home against those shower of w*n*ers.
    Lisa Reid impressive in goal
    Full back line outstanding
    #13 outstanding

  3. Mayo very lucky today. Fitness levels look long way off what is needed at county level. Remember Galway were missing the Kilkerrin-Clonberne players who are the back bone of their team.
Can’t understand why Fiona McHale was taken off. I know she is 35 but she is fitter than most of the girls playing today and one of the few players showing leadership showing for the ball and winning ball.
Still a win is a win.
