1. Interesting team. Seems very forward heavy with McLaughlin moving back to wing back. Lambert and Evan O’Brien play most of their club football as forwards as well.

   Haven’t seen these lads play live so far this year so looking forward to tomorrow.

2. Very attacking team. Played some great stuff in the Connacht final. A measuring defensive game plan will also be needed v a highly rated Derry team.

4. I presume it is safe to say this is the team that will start no trick no gimmicks. subs bench? Very brave selection, very attack minded, adds to the interest I think. 6. Fairly powerful bench to come on in Sean Og Tighe, Stephen McGreal, Donovan Cosgrave and Joe Dawson and John Gallagher.

8. I was at a Minor match in Carrick on Shannon 2 years ago. I was really impressed with Donovan Cosgrove.I predicted he would have a great future. Was surprised he didnt make the starting lineup. Heading to Carrick tomorrow.

9. 12 of the 24 players named in program for Roscommon game went to either Rice College or Ballinrobe CS.

10. I will be very surprised if any of the three teams left get within 10 pts of Kerry,even without Clifford and OShea. Their bench alone looks amazing and I’m sure there will be no complacency with Jack OConnor in charge.

13. Derry first. This uncharted territory for this Mayo bunch. So many performed well at schools levels but failed at minor. Big challenge tomorrow and I hope we best them because so far weve just beaten leitrim and an over confident ros side who fell to bits in the final quarter. Remember that game was evenly poised until we blitzed 2 goals in 3 mins.

    I’ll be in leitrim tomorrow. We’ll have some colour behind the goals and I’ll be seeing who stands out. Looking forward to seeing a tough dogged attitude from our lads.

    I agree that Kerry are being lauded as gods. Mayo can be just as good. You gotta believe.

14. Kerry’s record speaks for its self. In the last two years they’ve beaten Derry by 11 and 25 pts and Kildare by 22 pts. Kildare had earlier beaten Mayo by 6 pts. I’ve seen nothing so far at u20 to suggest that kind of form has dropped.

15. I see galway are Connacht minor champions for 4th year running with a 2-13 to 2-09 win over the Rossies this evening.

    This is a very unproven team . They have done nothing last few years as a county team and tjis year only wins over leitrim and Roscommon.. it could go anyway tomorrow….

17. So Galway do a 4 in a row tonight at Minor.This is a disgrace , we are the biggest Gaelic footballing County in the Province and have not won a Connacht Minor title since 2014.
    The County Board took there eye of the ball, when the Seniors were getting to Finals most years.We need to take a serious look at our underage structure this year, our we could be having more short summers like this year. Tomorrow is huge day for Mayo football in that will really get to know how good this under 20 team really are as it is the 1st right test as I think they avoided Galway who were the best team of the other 4 in the province but were unlucky to have 2 men sent of against Roscommon.
    Was at Garrymore and Ballagh game this evening, very good game and have to say I was impressed with Sharoize Akram his pace is phenomenal ,up there with Jack McCaffrey and Keith Higgins if he could put on another few kilos over the winter he is a serious prospect for our half back line.Jamie Oates ,Caolan Crowe and Shane Nally were all standout performeres for Garrymore, they will push Mitchels or any other contenders hard for the Moclair this year.Ballagh had Andy Moran , David Drake and Seamus Cunniffe all line out for them too but Akram and Cormac Doohan were best for them.

18. Really hoping the u20’s win and even more hopeful that their are a bunch of them that have the talent to get on to the senior panel. This team is the bridge to our senior campaigns getting back in track. It should be a proper test for them and will tell alot more about them than their recent matches. Mayo could do with them at least reaching the final and then another serious test for them there. The best of luck to them.

19. I think the minors closed the gap on Galway a bit this year but still a long way behind. Thomas Morley seems to be very positive about the future , so maybe next year.

21. I was at Garrymore v Ballaghadereen game too. Sharoize has really improved his tackling and does look like a player that could add something in 2019.

    Cian Hanley made a couple of runs but. nothing came off them. His reading of game and ball skills are going to take more time

    David Drake ran and ran and ran. But that’s about it. Lacks quality when he gets into the last third of the field.

    Seamus Cunniffe started slowly but got on top of his man. Would like to see more of him

    Andy Moran was poor, played at Centre Forward was too deep tried to play a play making role and Crowe ran the legs off him early on

    Caolan Crowe played Centre Back on Andy, best player on the field for first twenty five minutes drove forward kicked two good points. Held Andy scoreless. Faded a little in second half

    Shane Nally had a mixed bag, Three trademark 45 yard efforts. Couple of very poor passes but a brilliant full length block and three or four great catches

    Of the non county men, Gary Conway at Full Forward scored 1-3 from play and was lively throughout

    Cathal Slattery caused Ballagh a lot of problems with his direct running and can fell unlucky not to be in Carrick On Shannon today finished a brilliant move for firs Garrymore goal.

25. Best of luck to the U20’s today, an exceptionally talented bunch and in Michael Solan they have a manager who will instill a belief in the players… this is one of ingredients which makes the difference in a tight game…..

After Andy having such a great year last year I dont like to complain about him , but in the tighter pitches like McHale park and in Newbridge 2 weeks ago his lack of pace has caught up with him, Croke park actually suits him with the big open space and his very intelligent runs.Think hes a great option to have 15 minutes to go but we need to be playing 2 real scoring speed merchants inside with Cillian if thats Brian Reape , Ciaran Treacy, James Durcan ,Ross Egan or Ryan O’ Donoghue or whoever.

27. Thanks too Redcol. Glad to here Akrams defensive game is getting stronger. Makes intelligent runs off the ball and players round him need to be alert to those runs. Probably are at club level. Great analysis of other player performances too. Thanks again

29. @redcol great analysis there, you could be reporting the same if they were wearing mayo colors especially where Drake is concerned. I believe Akram was involved with the present squad so next year will be big for him.
    Really looking forward to the Derry U20 game. Great Moran is back in the side after injury but who do you drop with the talent at his disposal. Dropping Oisín McLaughlin deeper may be an inspired decision he brother Eoghan was a star for Rice earlier in the year in the same position. He has also played for his club there. Yes very attacking team and a strong bench. Derry are a big strong team so our mobility and speed will cause them problems.

    Just arrived in a very very quiet Carrick-on-Shannon. Disappointed. Looks like we will have a tiny Mayo following.

31. Your 2 hours before an All Ireland U20 semi final Ger, the team aren’t even in Carrick yet I’d say.

32. Standing behind goals. Very very poor crowd here. We ain’t playing too well either. Fairly well opened up at the back for two goals. Our forwards have the beating of their back though. Pity it’s Derry who’ll have strong breeze in 2nd half.

33. Half time Mayo 1:07 (10) Derry 2:03 (09). Mayo the better team but silly mistakes and not taking our scores is why its so close.

34. We finished the half much better. 1 point up at the break but hope conceding those two soft ish goals dont come back to haunt us. Egan and O’Donoghue look sharp up front and can win their own ball well.

35. Really like the look of many of the u20s on show in first half at least, hope they keep it up, we were badly taken for 2 goals but great response from these young lads. I was at garrymore ballaghdereen match last night also, and a few of us remarked why garrymore centre forward Cathal Slattery wasn’t on u20 panel, and after watching 1st half of u20 match, think he would be good addition to that panel. I agree also Akram beginning to look the real deal, in the bit of match I seen thought Hanley looked good, he has real pace, which we are lacking. His football skills will be fine but he needs to develop his left side, all seniors county players must be equally comfortable off both sides.

36. This is a super football team. Positives and negatives in that half but overall happy to be going in ahead.

    Very strong breeze so they could press our kickouts second half.

    Relatively small Mayo support but loud.

42. Great battling win in 2nd half. But Jesus lads…if any u20s read this or you know one of them…when you’re two or three points up with seconds to go and the opposition were breaking through the centre you pull them down, take the black card!

    I’ll give my thoughts when I calm down. Great to win. Plenty to improve on…full back line need to really be fighter and more aggressive in next game.

    Maybe we’ll get a bigger mayo crowd next time too!

45. Absolutely delighted with that, well done lads, great win. Lots of Brillant performances, Oisin mcLoughlin stood out but there were many. Oisin remind me of Noel Connelly, best compliment I can pay him!!

46. Nervous battling game but the lads did really well to see it out. Sean Og Tighe made a huge contribution winning a ball he had no right to win. John Gallagher 2 points from the bench.
    Conor Diskin needs to lay it off 5 yards earlier, he lost a lot of ball taking it on into traffic.
    Tommy Conroy did excellent with the limited supply that he got.

47. What a cracker of a match and what a cracker of a Mayo team. The future is bright. The Kerry Kildare result leaves me wondering whether some of the shine may have come off Jack O’Connor by now. The super minors under his charge are not exactly setting the world alight. Remember when there was a cacophany of supporters calling for Jack to be brought in to manage Mayo? Hope we don’t have a rerun of “Newbridge or Nowhere” for the final.

48. Great win and hugely encouraging for the future. Was worried about the state of Mayo football for the next few years but hopefully the emergence of these lads will keep things going. Hope they can go on and win it out – it creates a healthy winning mentality.

49. Very enjoyable game with end to end attacking football. Could have made it easier on ourselves but these lads will learn a lot from that experience. Great to see Rochford there keeping an eye out for possible future options.

50. Anyone listening to Des Cahill. He announced on RTE 1 radio that Mayo u20 will have to play Kerry in the final. Is the man not switched on or is he just thick. Fantastic win for the team. Stuck at it till the end.

    Watched the second half here from Australia on YouTube. Commentators were very obviously Mayo supporters which was amusing!
    Few lads really impressed me. Oisín McLaughlin, Ryan o donoghue (even though he was quiet) and Tommy Conroy look like lads with the composure to play at a much higher level as they get older. Thought Evan o brien was excellent too. Our full back line was a bit exposed at times but hey fought hard. Conor Diskin is some strap of a fella but he’s very raw yet though.
    The standout player for me though who really caught the eye was Paul Lambert, the no 5. I believe he is still u18, which is remarkable. I expect to see this fella in a Mayo senior jersey for many a long year to come. He reminds me of Kevin McLaughlin on the ball, a real natural.
    Hope we can finish the job in the final now!

56. GMC personally I pleased final is set for Croke Park that’s the arena where players want to play and perform on and make a statement that Mayo teams can claim All Irelands in Croke. If the players are given a choice I’m sure what their response would be. Supporters issues are secondary it’s our choice to attend games are for the players. What a statement for this crop of players moving onto senior is to secure an All Ireland in Croke Park
