We’ve just named our team to play Galway in tonight’s refixed FBD League Round 2 match at MacHale Park (throw-in 7.30pm). Here’s the team we’ve named for this one:
Mayo (FBD League v Galway, 12/1/2018): David Clarke (Ballina Stephenites); Steven Duffy (Crossmolina Deel Rovers), Kevin Keane (Westport), Jamie Oates (Garrymore); Michael Plunkett (Ballintubber), Michael Hall (Breaffy), Shairoze Akram (Ballaghaderreen); Ger McDonagh (Castlebar Mitchels), Jason Gibbons (Ballintubber); Fionn McDonagh (Westport), Neil Douglas (Castlebar Mitchels), Matthew Ruane (Breaffy); Ryan O’Donoghue (Belmullet), Brian Reape (Moy Davitts), Peter Naughton (Knockmore).
Needless to say, it’s a much-changed line-up to the one that started against Leitrim on Wednesday evening. Just three players who lined out from the beginning in that game – Ger McDonagh, Fionn McDonagh and Neil Douglas – are also named to start this evening, in what is, essentially, the same team that was named for last Sunday’s abandoned fixture against tonight’s opposition.
Galway named their team for this fixture last night – full details here.
By the way, Galway Bay FM are providing live commentary on tonight match (thanks to Tuamstar for the tip-off on that).
Back later with a report on the game, assuming, despite the extremely wet weather, that it does actually go ahead this time.
Good luck to the lads tonight. Raining very heavy right now so hoping the pitch holds up.
Would like another look at Jordan flynn I would say ciaran Mcdonald would have him well schooled I would say with the right players around him he will stand out it’s going to be a hard game tonight
Are Mid West radio covering the game live?
James Fleming, Check Post by Tuamstar in previous? Match Reports. C.2.
Same team that was meant to start last Sunday. Weather terrible in Castlebar at the moment and the pitch wasn’t in the best of shape Wednesday night…
Safe journey to everyone going rap up well
I think they will change out the lads who played Wednesday night. There hasn’t been enough recovery. Else theyll just play the first half.
I expect the game to be called off tonight. It was like a bog at the end of Wednesday’s game.
The same reason why we should not be entertaining double bills for league matches with hurlers, ladies or anyone. It’s nonsense and only our main team that suffers.
We need the pitch in the best possible condition for our thoroughbred team to excel.
Looking forward to newspaper (and blog!!) headlines: Hall and Oates run the show for Mayo
Its been raining solidly in Castlebar for the past 5 hrs..Dont know how they propose to play a match tonight..Conditions will be laughable..
Nice one, Catcol! I like the Eighties’ vibe to it.
Is there any alternative venue on standby?
This weather was forecast.
If it’s not played tonight God knows when it will be.
Surely a decision should be made before now. A definite decision.
I suppose an hour plodding through a quagmire will do wonders for strength and conditioning.
Just off the phone to office in Mchale park , man I spoke to said he THINKS the game will go ahead but he is waiting on someone from Connacht council to come ( the next 20 mins ) to make the call , I’m due to leave shortly , don’t know what to do now 🙁
Dig Deep Her’s what you should do. Get down to McHale Park and buy a ticket if you do not have one. The future will take of its self. Best wishes to all the new players who line out tonight.
I’m just on my way PJ
Cmon mayo
Nice one Catcol
We’re okay with that headline or even with a headline that Mayo reape rewards but we’re in trouble if headline mentions Duffy’s circus.
Staying with the Hall and Oates theme, maybe ‘I can’t cope with that’ if the match fails to go ahead for a second time?
The ref would.have to be a maniac to let them play in these conditions.
Still raining in Castlebar….Game going ahead anyway according to official Mayo GAA Twitter
Galwayman, i think next Wednesday is free if tonights game is called off.
Kevin McLoughlin in for Neil Douglas, Alan Freeman for Fionn McDonagh and Adam Gallagher in for Ger McDonagh. Delighted to see Adam Gallagher starting for Mayo again. Seems along time ago since he was MOTM in Newbridge against Kildare in 2014
Another fiasco is only 30 minutes away. Prenty will have to go if this match is abandoned.
Shane Nally in for Fionn McDonagh, not Alan Freeman
Good update there Youngfella. Yes I think Gallagher’s performance will merit attention.
any score yet
3 all at 15 min
4 points to 3 for Galway. Mayo playing with a gale according to the Galway bay FM lads although take that with a pinch of salt as those lads have maroon plastered glasses!!!
Decent wind not Gale 4 piece now.
McLoughlIn, Nally x2 and Brian Reape from a free are the scorers so far for Mayo.
Galway Bay FM commentary is very biased. You’d think the Galway goalie is an All Star!
At least we have a commentary! Where are Midwest radio??
Good point well made Oileán Acla!
what is the latest score
8 to 5 mayo McLoughlins with 2 more. How does he keep going up and down. Wrecked looking at him. Must be one of Mayos most capped players he’s wheeled out every game.
Kevin Mac has some engine on him. Brian Reape with 3 points (2 from frees) and Shane Nally with 2 fine points from play.
James Fleming why don’t you tune in to Galway Bay FM like the rest of us. You are online aren’t you
Checking the blog from abroad. Great time for Kevin Mc but he’s as proven a player as we have. Fail to see why he often plays in FBD under last 3 management teams.
Thanks Bohola i will do that
You’re welcome James. No problem at all.
8 – 6 to Mayo at half time. That’s a very heavy pitch those fellas are playing on here this evening. I’m halfway up the stand and there’s pockets of water all over the place.
Eight points to six for us at half-time. Kevin Mc (0-3), Brian Reape (0-3, two frees), Shane Nally (0-2) our first half scorers.
any updates
galway bay i cant pick up
1-8 to 7. Naughton goal
1-8 a piece
thanks Gizmobobs
2 down. Red for sub comer. Elbow
Galway 2 men down. Black and yellow .blatant pull down when 2 on 1 on.
Still 2 points down.
Galway radio saying Clarke’s short kick outs playing into their hands
Listening to the game on Galway Bay FM, Galway with 13 men and still 2 points ahead, this Mayo team tonite appear to have no guile, the A guys need not to worry about their places.
These FBD games are good to bring on the younger players in the panel, job well done Stephen Rochford
Fair play to Galway. Down to 12 men and we couldn’t get the scores… disappointing but will we learn how to use numerical advantage…
Full time 1-9 mayo
1- 10 Galway
Mayo 1-9 to Galway 1-10 full time. Galway with 12 men in the end. Not much of a positive spin from our point of view again but it’s FBD so let’s not get carried away. Remember we are looking for 1/2 players to push into the senior squad…:still looking though.
Listened to GB FM – good commentary, though all from a Galway perspective.
Would have thought a one point defeat from our thirds to Galway’s main team plus some fringe players wasn’t a bad night’s work.
Second half very very bad but it’s only January you would think that the new boys would step up if they wanted to give Rochford something to think about
Sorry for lads to lose but it’s only FBD, but listening to those 2 sickeners on Galway Bay tonite was worse. Roll on May 13th quickly.
Good first half and a very poor 2nd half. Just 1-1 against a side that finished the game with 12 men is horrible stat. Getting into a bad habit losing to Galway now.
James Fleming, if you dowload an App such as SIMPLE RADIO you can have a thousand Radio Stations from Meath FM to Texas Blues and a world of Classical Music. The APP is free.
Good Listening,
Cisran2.
Galway the team that have found the couple of players, the fullback Kelly, corner back Mulkerrins and the soccer player Cunningham (he was a super player at Ted Webb level), Galway have developed a grit to win tight games, that is three on the spin with a league game in Salthill to come. Mayo now have to beat them in the league game. I don’t think Stephen Rochford has managed a win against them.
Ryan O’Donoghue hassled well all game. Reape played well at times and certainly backs himself. A decent game given the conditions with a good bite to it, there’s a real niggle between the teams now and with a league game to come before the championship, I expect fireworks in May. For the headbangers sweating about a loss in January, ye should start following the Rossies, they’re the kings of January football. It’s a 3rd team we had out tonight as was mentioned above.
GAA loopy..We wont start sweating it just yet…
Headbangers – charming comment about fellow contributors from a keyboard and it does not break any house rules. I assume it must be within these rules , but not a term I would use.
Incidently the FBD results are not something I am interested in. I do not think the worth of a player will be found in these games. That is found out in the white heat of battle and the FBD is not that. A good manager should be able to spot the players who will deliver when it matters.
