There I was just now saying that the hurling team to play Roscommon at MacHale Park tomorrow in the opening round of the NHL Division 3A (throw-in 2pm) hadn’t been named yet. It has and they’ve even named the full match-day panel for it. Here it is:
That’s a bit of a strange team, you’d have to admit, a selection devoid of the usual names and – this has got to be a first for a competitive hurling fixture – not a single player from Tooreen in the starting fifteen. I’ve no idea, I’m afraid, what the story is there but I guess we’ll see tomorrow.
The best of luck to the team that has been named and here’s to a winning start to their League campaign.
Tooreen players probably given extended break after a long club season.
No Tooreen player – this can’t end well…
Its been a few weeks now since they played the final, they had more or less a non-event of a county championship last year, their season only really began in earnest with the county final in October sometime, surely they’re well ready for action at this stage?
Hope I’m wrong but this looks like it will be a walloping, in what should have been a great test and winnable game
Also what has happened to all the Galway recruits? Disappointing that none really stuck at it or maybe there’s more to it than meets the eye
Roscommon by comparison have 4 Galway men starting and a Clare man.. it mighn’t be to everyone’s taste but its a great system that has the potential to really bring on the second tier counties and fair play to the counties that implement it to their advantage
Tooreen seniors start training around April time and are flat out until they’re out of the championship. Also some of them play football. As the managers explained they need a worthwhile break at some stage!
Also I much prefer to see players from Caiseal Gaels etc line out for our county that blow ins, at least we’re building for the future with these lads.
That was unreal that Mayo got a draw with that team. Well done!!
Delighted to be wrong about result anyway, very positive to dig out a draw, hopefully a big year ahead now once tooreen lads return
Full credit to everyone who represented the jersey today
