Team to play Roscommon tomorrow named

We’ve just named our team for tomorrow’s FBD League match against Roscommon at Ballyhaunis (throw-in 2pm) and it’s a strong one too. Here it is:

Mayo (FBD League v Roscommon, 20/1/2013): David Clarke (Ballina Stephenites); Ger Cafferkey (Ballina Stephenites), Shane McHale (Knockmore), Keith Rogers (Ballaghaderreen); Keith Higgins (Ballyhaunis), Donal Vaughan (Ballinrobe), Chris Barrett (Belmullet); Aidan O’Shea (Breaffy), Seamus O’Shea (Breaffy); Kevin McLoughlin (Knockmore), Richie Feeney (Castlebar Mitchels), Lee Keegan (Westport); Alan Murphy (Ballinrobe), Alan Freeman (Aghamore), Jason Doherty (Burrishoole).

This team shows eight changes from the one that started against GMIT in midweek. Out go Michael Walsh, Cathal Hallinan, Tom Cunniffe, Jason Gibbons, Barry Moran, Cathal Carolan, Conor O’Shea and Michael Conroy while in come Ger Cafferkey, Shane McHale, Keith Higgins, the two O’Sheas, Kevin McLoughlin, Alan Murphy and Jason Doherty.

Keith Higgins gets a welcome run-out at wing-back on his home pitch and maybe this’ll be the start of an extended placement in this sector for the experienced Ballyhaunis man. Ballinrobe’s Alan Murphy – who first broke into the senior panel late last summer – finally gets to make his senior debut, lining out at top of the right.

Lee Keegan and Richie Feeney both get another start in the half-forwards where tomorrow they’re joined by fellow erstwhile half-back and all-round star man Kevin McLoughlin. They could make a tasty half-forward line, I reckon.

Roscommon have also named their team for tomorrow – full details are here.

  1. I like what horan is doing trying out half backs on the half forward line  , mcloughlan , feeney and keegan all well able to take scores, the tree bring speed accuracy and strength respectively.

  2. With Dillon,Andy Moran and O’Connor to return i can’t imagine we’ll be playing half backs as half forwards. It’s worth a try now and that team named is good enough to get a good win under their belts.

  3. The idea of playing half backs across the half forward line is definitely worth experimenting with, particularly as we seem to have an abundance of talent in the half back line. Hopefully this will also free C O’Connor to take up his place in the full forward line.
We still need to find someone to fill the centre forward position, Feeney probably looks the most likely out of the 3 named.
Might be worth trying S O’Shea there as well. The FBD is the place to experiment with these things.
