The day before the off

Darth Vader Mayo

It’s the day before our opening match in this year’s League campaign, with less than 24 hours to go at this stage before the men in black get into action down in Killarney.

From what I can see there’ll be a large Mayo contingent there tomorrow. I won’t, unfortunately, be among them as the domestic agenda is already overloaded up here tomorrow with other, non-GAA, stuff. Hopefully I’ll get to catch most of the action live on TG4 but I’ll be setting the DVR in advance just in case.

There’s a fair bit in the papers today about us, some of which has been referenced in the comments. There’s a good interview by Keith Duggan with Donal Vaughan in the Irish Times, there’s a short piece about the new away jersey in the Irish Independent and there’s that Dara Ó Cinnéide piece in the Irish Examiner, with the same paper also having a separate piece by John Fogarty in which former county ‘keeper John Healy says we’re not cynical enough.

And that’s about it, to be honest. If you haven’t joined the prediction mini-league yet or have forgotten to do your Week 1 predictions, you’ll need to get your skates on as the deadline for doing so is this evening at 7pm ahead of a slew of matches taking place under lights at various venues around the country tonight.

  1. Good piece by Keith Duggan on Donie Vaugan (thanks WJ), a class act and a mulit-positional footballer if there ever was one.
Sometimes I feel we have too much humility in Mayo and lack pragmaticism.
