The weekend’s matches

It’s already time to look ahead to the matches involving the county this weekend. There’s underage football for the lads, U16 camogie, hurling and, in women’s football, a Connacht final to look forward to.

The Minors get the weekend’s action underway on Friday evening when they travel to Sligo for a Connacht MFC Round 5 meeting at Markievicz Park. Throw-in there is 7pm, the ticket link is here and the link for Connacht GAA’s streaming service is here. We’re hoping to have a Final Whistle pod from the game on Patreon that evening. UPDATE: There won’t be a Final Whistle pod for the game this evening.

On Saturday the county’s U17 hurlers take on Kerry in the quarter-finals of the Celtic Challenge competition. The venue for this game is Tulla, Co. Clare where throw-in is midday. Admission is free.

Also on Saturday, the county’s Senior hurlers are back in Rackard Cup action. They’re up against Armagh in a match fixed for Hastings Insurance MacHale Park where throw-in is 1pm. The ticket link for it is here and tickets may also be purchased at selected Centra and SuperValu outlets. There’ll be live commentary on this game on Midwest Radio.

On Sunday, the U20 footballers are playing Down in the All-Ireland U20B semi-final. This game is fixed for Breffni Park in Cavan where throw-in is 1pm. The ticket link for it is here.

At 2pm that afternoon, the county’s U16 camogie team take on Wicklow in Round 2 of the U16 C Championship. No venue has yet been confirmed for this game.

Finally, also at 2pm on Sunday, the Connacht LGFA final takes place, involving another meeting of Mayo and Galway. St Brigid’s in Kiltoom is the venue for this provincial decider and the ticket link for it is here. We’ll have a Final Whistle pod from this game on Patreon as well and I’m looking forward to being in Kiltoom for it myself.

The very best of luck to all the Mayo teams in action this weekend.

  1. Will be in Sligo for the Minors game this evening . Does anyone know of any streaming plans on Sunday for the U20s and the ladies Connacht final?
Good luck to all Mayo teams in action this weekend and also Louth footballers!

  2. Best of luck to all the Mayo teams in action
@JoeG , always a fan of Louth football myself too !!

  3. Just a reminder to season ticket holders there is a scam email going around about payment for the next 3 games.

  4. Some interesting club leagues on across the board this weekend too. Some real crackers, bit of local club rivalry etc. can’t be the club scene. All the best to all the mayo teams in action aswell this weekend

  5. @JoeG: The LGFA Connacht Final is on TG4 YouTube –

Haven’t seen/heard anything on the u20 B Semi-Final yet. With all of the Provincial games available at underage I’d be surprised if we don’t get a PPV option for that one, either Clubber/InPlayer you’d guess, but they’d normally have started promoting those games by now so it’s looking less and less likely as the hours pass. Fingers crossed there’s a last minute solution there.

  6. @JoeG I don’t expect a stream from the Mayo side (unless Down GAA have plans) for the u20 B semi final given the low level of interest it appears in this competition and also I see that its €5 for entry to Breffni park also. All that being said i think it will be a very competitive game…looking at the Ulster u20 championship this down side were very unlucky not to qualify having drawn with Tyrone (now favourites to win it out) in an earlier round. I assume there will be updates in any case on social media.

  7. Would be interesting to see what Claremorris are like this year if they get there best 15 on the field, A full forward line of Hurley, Diskin and Beirne one of the best on paper in the County .Is Diskin back from injury yet?

  8. Thanks wj and TsuDhoNim. Incredible round up of all things Mayo for the weekend. Great service wj.

  9. Thanks TsuDhoNim and Mayo 2050 but it doesn’t matter any longer. My debit card was hacked last weekend and consequently cancelled. Was expecting new one by today but it failed to arrive. Contacted Connacht GAA but although they were sorry they said I would not be able to purchase a ticket or pay for the stream with cash. Fuming!

  10. @Mayo2050: Neither county would have the rights to be involved with streaming that one. That’d be on HQ for the All Ireland Series Knockout games (as it was on each of the Provincial Councils for the Provincial games. Connacht & Ulster using InPlayer while Munster & Leinster have multi-year deals done with Clubber. Crossing my fingers Connacht join in with Clubber in the near-future, it’s an amazing deal for the year for a huge amount of ball).

TG4 have the rights for the underage games at All Ireland Knockout stages at A grade, signed in ’23 for up to ’27. Not sure if HQ buried the rights for B grade competition (potentially to avoid segmenting viewers away from other games), if TG4 have them & deciding not to cover (a fair call given their position) or if the rights deal was done prior to the change in Competition structure (I’ve completely lost track of when changes like Group Stages or B Grade changes were agreed at 20s) so it possibly became an unintended casualty there. Was crossing my fingers it was the latter and a last minute solution would pop up, be it TG4 YouTube or elsewhere.

I’d have no doubts that game would turn a profit PPV if it were offered on InPlayer/Clubber. Friends & family that can’t make the game would cover the overheads & hit breakeven before you’d get to the ‘I’d watch two flies kicking ball’ types like myself who’d happily throw profits at them. It just might not offset the lost profits elsewhere of lesser TV deals for other games where it would be diluting the audience, so could be an economic write-off regardless of the potential interest.

A shame if it’s not available. I’d be expecting a cracking game there and fingers crossed for the lads. I’ll still be glued to the social updates/Score Beo App if I can’t watch it.

  11. Think cost to CB for streaming a game is approx. €1,800 on in player, so expect similar for other providers, so may not even be profitable looking at attendance figures. Especially for a B competition.
With the round robins you would wonder if any need for the B competition now, when was straight knockout definitely. But lads all get several championship games now. they be as well off back at clubs playing senior league.

  12. @JoeG: A couple of different ways you’d be able to work around that (e.g. you can buy disposable pre-paid Credit Cards in Tesco/Post Office) if you’re still interested in going.

Feel free to give me a poke on Discord if there are any other constraints. It’d be shocking to lose some support for the lads for something as small as a late Debit Card replacement. I’ll throw you a virtual card number for the cost of the ticket before I’d let that happen.

  13. Much appreciated TsuDhoNim. Must confess I wasn’t aware of pre-paid cards but will be on my way to get sorted in the next 5 minutes. Thank you again, you’ve made my day.

  14. All – just note there WON’T be a Final Whistle pod for this evening’s game. We couldn’t make it work logistically.

  15. Deane to McDonald= Goal

Deanes passing is exceptional, and an extremely unselfish player.
Kobe a great athlete, vertical leap and speed is exceptional. Wide receiver potential in the LZR mould.

  16. Watched match on streaming… kinda took the foot off the pedal – just got a bit lax. Gave away a lot of kickable frees..just dropped the intensity and concentration really which I’m sure Management won’t be overly pleased with. McD missed several frees too but he is lovely mover on the ball. Oisin Deane looks decent and Forry impressed.

I’d think management will be telling them there’s plenty of work to do to if they want to win a Connacht Final.

  17. You’d have to think Crossmolina will have a serious minor team this year considering how many players they have on the Mayo team and panel.

  18. They have a fantastic minor team Nephin and won last years u21s so building again aswell as Flynn and Loftus still relatively young men and previous county youth stars like Fionan Duffy

  19. Achill75 I have just signed into the official GAA Season Ticket website and it is offering the tickets package. Why do you say that the email about this is a scam?
