We named our team to face Donegal on Sunday a short time ago. Here it is:
Mayo (NFL Division One v Donegal, 28/2/2016): Robbie Hennelly (Breaffy); Brendan Harrison (Aghamore), Ger Cafferkey (Ballina Stephenites), Keith Higgins (Ballyhaunis); Lee Keegan (Westport), Colm Boyle (Davitts), Shane Nally (Garrymore); Tom Parsons (Charlestown Sarsfields), Jason Gibbons (Ballintubber); Diarmuid O’Connor (Ballintubber), Aidan O’Shea (Breaffy), Conor O’Shea (Breaffy); Evan Regan (Ballina Stephenites), Jason Doherty (Burrishoole), Mikey Sweeney (Kiltane).
So it’s three changes from the side that lined out in the narrow defeat to Dublin earlier this month. In come Keith Higgins, Lee Keegan and Jason Gibbons while out go Caolan Crowe, Donal Vaughan and Michael Hall. Both Keith and Jason did, of course, feature from the bench in that game.
Looking back to the last time we faced Donegal, in last year’s All-Ireland quarter-final, there are eight survivors from the team that started that day. Ger Cafferkey, Keith Higgins, Lee Keegan, Colm Boyle, Tom Parsons, Diarmuid O’Connor, Aidan O’Shea and Jason Doherty all lined out from the start that day while Robbie Hennelly was a half-time sub for David Clarke.
I think for summer we are going to go with a big FF and speedy lads to feed of him in the corners. Good luck to all the newcomers. Hope our backs deliver quick accurate ball.
This will be a douser of a game with the unexpected availability of Parsons. The day is going to be fine. The spin up will be long but pleasant and after it’s all over we ll have the pleasure of the recorded version on the tv.We re having it v good indeed!
I’ll be disappointed if there’s not a bit more accuracy on balls going forward and fellas making runs at the right
time. If we manage that I reckon we ll be a fairly happy lot.
looking forward to a great weekend of sport. First the great bloodsport—the election count. Then the rugby & gaa on Sat followed by our own game on Sunday.
Best wishes to Stephen and the boys on Sunday. So much sport for the last weekend of February. At the end of the day we associate this weekend more with the rugby than we do with GAA. Football is a high summer game.
Under 21now under20. Minor now under 17. No B Championship.
Interesting selecion. Much wiser after the Match. Will Michael Murphy be man marked? or?
For anyone travelling on Sunday allow yerself a bit extra time. I’m hearing those traffic lights at the roadworks outside Ballybofey are a **** altogether. What is it with roadworks and us travelling supporters!!
Bit more optimistic given Parsons availability and move us a bit closer to 50 50 to win this one. No way 2 O’ Sheas will play in half forwards, expect 1 to stay mostly inside with Doherty coming out. Diarmaid will probably mostly operate as sweeper and hopefully Connor OS will double up as needed. Higgins and Keegan also a big boost as we’ll have a fairly solid back line. But hopefully more fine tuning defensive plan in advance of summer. Keegan can keep their form player McHugh fairly quiet like last year.
I trying to be optimistic so am going with a draw.
lookin forward to the trip and also lookin forward to the game. Interesting to see how were fixed after the break. I think we should be in good fettle and 2 points is within our grasp. If we can find a bit more sharpness up front and defend well we should be up and running
Plenty of instruction to be taken from Dubs. V. Monaghan tonight.
Speed and aggression at all times…
No silly fouls..
Don’t give ball away….
Off the ball running…
Kick for score within your ability range….
Accuracy of all transference of ball…
Recycle if not getting anywhere and go again…Nothing that we don’t already know but we have to be up to doing it!
Monaghan showed they’re no joke either. Have improved big time and are a match for anyone.
Safe journey to you all travelling tomorrow. Looking forward to a short hop over to Ballybofey for next best thing to a home game for all us Mayo folk living here in Donegal. Forecast looks good for a great day and hopefully a great game.
Those roadworks are not too bad if you allow and extra 10 mins or so you should be okay. Very close to Ballybofey so your nearly there when you hit the roadworks. Also good parking if you go right at Lidl store as you come into town. About a 5 to 10 min walk over to the ground from there.
Maigheo Abu.
Interesting to see Clarke,SOS,Vaughan Loftus and C Barrett all listed in the subs. Perfect conditions with small bit of a breeze into the trees!
When is Clarke back in goals. cant afford to give away 3 point a game due to poor kickouts. wont win an all ireland like this,
Relegation on the cards
