This afternoon’s LGFA NFL Division One match against Meath has been switched to the Dome. Throw-in there is at the later time of 2.30pm.
This venue change was announced by the LGFA only minutes ago, so barely an hour ahead of the original throw-in time at James Stephens Park. There’s no word at all yet from Mayo LGFA on their social media about the venue change, a silence that beggars belief.
At any level, providing such short notice (or, in the case of Mayo LGFA, no notice at all) about a venue change involving a distance of 50km is highly unsatisfactory. It would surely have been clear to all and sundry early this morning that this game couldn’t have gone ahead in Ballina today.
To be honest, with a Red weather warning set to come into effect in the county from 5pm, it’s doubtful that this game should be played at all today. Sure, the playing conditions in the Dome are ideal but the driving conditions afterwards for those attending won’t be and the prudent and safer option would have been to call it off.
I was aiming to get to the game today myself – in fact, I’d even set off on the journey – but the Red warning gave me second thoughts and I decided to return to base. I doubt I’ll be the only one following this one from at home.
UPDATE: Mayo LGFA have now confirmed the venue and time change for today’s game – here.
