Our final group match in this year’s FBD takes place in Ballinamore tomorrow afternoon (throw-in 2 pm) where we face Leitrim for the first time in ages. I think the last time that we came into contact with the Ridge County was as long ago as the Connacht semi-final of 2006 where we managed to extricate ourselves from Carrick-on-Shannon with just the narrowest of victories.
Mickey Moran was, of course, prowling the sideline for us that day so tomorrow will be the first time we’ll have encountered him since he left us in such controversial circumstances later that year. His current charges have plenty to play for tomorrow as a win should, I think, guarantee them a place in the FBD final. We’re in much the same boat – a win, or even a draw, should see us qualify for a tilt at NUIG (with their large Mayo contingent) in the decider.
I had half a notion that I might make it to the match tomorrow but work (too much of same) means that this won’t happen: a solid five or six hours in front of the computer, I fear, lies ahead of me on what should, I know, be a day of rest. I’m hoping to clock out early in the afternoon and so will probably try to tune into Midwest to see if Angelina has much to say about the action from Ballinamore. Assuming I do, I should be able to rise to a few score updates via Twitter followed by what will (at best) be a bit of a thrown-together match report later on.
I`d like to see McGarrity tried in the half foreward line maybe number 10.He has kicked a few very good scores for us over the years from 35 to 40 yards out and he rearly kicks a wide.
He could always be used as a third midfieldar if he was needed. He`s a very good footballer but i always felt that, come championship time when the hitting starts, that because of his build,he is too easily pushed off the ball.At number 10 he could still be used to win primary posession from long kick outs.
Isn`t James Horan doing a great job so far trying out all these players and getting results with them.I was in Ballyhaunis last Sunday and it was encouraging to see how they came out after half time and totally dominated the game after that ,leaving the sheepstealers with only one point for the full half.I know its only the FBD but it was good to watch.Keep up the good work lads!
