U20 panel named

The Mayo U20 football panel for this year’s Championship was announced this evening. It includes players from nineteen different clubs and the full list (of 36 players) is as follows:

Frank Irwin of Ballina Stephenites was confirmed yesterday as U20 captain for this year. His clubmate Dylan Thornton is vice-captain.

Maurice Sheridan’s team open their provincial campaign, in what’s an old-fashioned knockout Championship, against Galway on Wednesday 6th April at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence. That Connacht Championship quarter-final is set to throw in at Bekan that evening at 7pm.

Well done to all the lads who are included in the panel and the best of luck to them in the Championship.

  1. Donnacha is U20 alright but his name isn’t on the list released this evening. I’m not sure what the story is there – he’s not included in the match day panel for tomorrow’s game either.

  2. They’re from Iniskeen, deep in Paddy Kavanagh country in lovely Monaghan. I snapped a pic of them when we last played there in the League, way back in 2011.

  3. Hopefully Sheridan starts playing a more expansive style. I know he won the Sigerson this year but the football he had the u20s playing last time round was awful to watch.

  4. Presume the style of football is determined, or partly determined, by the players capabilities.

No Donnacha McHugh is troubling. Presume he will be released to play with under 20s. Although at this point he wont have trained with them

  5. Very unfair on Donnacha if he not let play with u20s.
He is unlikely to see much championship action with the seniors this year..

  6. What’s story with Ballina s Ciaran Boland good minor for 2years played well for Ballina last year champship
