The U21s did the business last night in Kiltoom, where they survived a determined second-half comeback by the young Rossies to record a third straight provincial victory at this grade. We won in the end by a goal, 1-14 to 0-14, but the Rossies’ Cathal Cregg hit the crossbar with the last move of the game, his side having clawed their way back from being seven points down early in the second half. The Sheepstealers were also left ruing the fact that Donal Shine blazed a second-half penalty over the bar.
I wasn’t at the game and only caught a bit of it on the radio. Match reports from Kiltoom are available in today’s Indo and from RTE and there’s also some discussion on the game on both Mayofans.com and gaaboard.com. Our goal-getter last night was Kiltane’s Mikey Sweeney but Aidan Campbell was, once again, our scorer-in-chief, notching seven points, four from frees. Is it nearly time to give him another run with the seniors, I wonder? That number 10 jersey is still very much up for grabs, that’s for sure.
Next up for the U21s is an All-Ireland semi-final date with Kerry on the 19th of this month, most likely in Ennis. Cork have dominated Munster for the past few years but many of this Kerry side featured in that All-Ireland final defeat (Wahooo! One should always note a Kerry loss in thus fashion) to Roscommon in 2006 so, although our fellas would be the more experienced outfit at this level, it’ll still be a tough one to win.
I hear U21 semi just been fixed for Nenagh @ 3.30 saturday 19th
Thanks for that, the details for the match are now up on the GAA’s website. The ref for this one is from Dublin.
The other semi, between Down and Kildare, takes place the same day in Navan, at 5pm.
