Up for the Match event at Blackrock Cottage on Sunday

The National League is getting more like the Championship every year.

This trend will be underlined this coming Sunday when the award-winning Blackrock Cottage restaurant, situated just a short walk from Pearse Stadium, hosts an Up for the Match event ahead of the meeting of Mayo and Galway in the opening round of the League. The event throws in at midday ahead of the match itself getting going at 1.45pm.

Entry to the event is free and it’s set to be a very relaxed and informal affair. Mike Finnerty is MC for the event and he’ll be chatting with four-time All-Star Colm Boyle of the Mayo Football Podcast and ex-Galway forward Seán Armstrong to look ahead to the match at Pearse Stadium, talk about the rivalry between the two counties and preview the upcoming inter-county season.

The lads will be chatting outside, at the back of Blackrock Cottage, which, incidentally, is a lovely place to get some tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soup and pre-match snacks. Blackrock Cottage is also open for breakfast and brunch from 8am next Sunday morning and they’ll also be serving lunch and dinner until 8pm after the match.

Blackrock Cottage in Salthill is just a 5-minute walk from Pearse Stadium. It’s situated at the very end of the Salthill Prom, near the famous Blackrock Diving Tower and anybody who has ever ‘kicked the wall’ on The Prom will know exactly where to find it. The Eircode for the restaurant is H91 KV9D.

There are going to be a few spot prizes given out as well at the event so it might be worth your while to beat the traffic, get parked up early and head to Blackrock Cottage to hear what Boyler and Seán have to say! Don’t forget, this is a FREE event and all are welcome.

  1. Bit early in the year for ‘up for the match’ but sure its Galway Mayo so a great start to the year. Think we will win, we played nice football for most of the league last year so expect similar but hopefully with a wider use of the squad. Focus on certain games which this should be one of them. As an aside albeit I havent seen him in the flesh this year yet – Comer appears to be in serious shape judging by the media pictures unless there is some photo shopping going on. Appears much slimmer and very conditioned than previous years
