I had meant to do some kind of considered preview in advance of today’s NFL final but, between one thing and the other, it never happened. Now, with just over six hours to go until throw-in, it’s far too late for all that and, to be honest, what I’d have to say wouldn’t add anything to the sum total of human intelligence on the subject.
Heading into another Croke Park final, I’m as optimistic as I always am ahead of a big game. Sure, it’s another one we could lose but I do think we have a great chance of winning today and the thought that we could do so is all that I’m focusing on right now. We’ve every reason to be confident about today’s decider – it’s us, not Cork, that have been the form team in this league campaign and today we have the opportunity to provide the necessary proof on this point. A win would also help to lift our profile as a serious challenger for summer honours but, as we all know, it’s what we do in the months to come that will be the true arbiter of how we stand there. And, of course, there’s a title up for grabs today. Not the most sought-after one, admittedly, but a national title nonetheless in a competition where we already have a rich history. Let’s go and add to that today. Let’s give it to the Langers.
I’ll be tweeting a bit (though only a bit, I’d say) from HQ during the match and then raving incoherently into my iPhone after the final whistle. The match report should be up a bit before midnight. ‘Till then.
Up Mayo!
