Vote for Club Player of the Year

The seventh annual Mayo News/O’Neills Club Stars Banquet takes place at the Knockranny Hotel in Westport on Saturday night week (December 10th) at which the Club Team of the Year will be announced. At the same bash, the winner of the Club Player of the Year award will be unveiled and this year the three players in the running for the Willie McNeela Perpetual Trophy are Ballintubber duo Alan Dillon and Cillian O’Connor as well as Castlebar Mitchels’ midfielder Barry Moran.

Like the recently concluded Presidential election, the winner of this particular contest will be the one who garners the greatest amount of public support. If you want to have a say in this respect, you can vote here.

If you’re planning on going to this year’s banquet, by the way, there are still a limited number of tickets available which you can get by calling (098) 25311 or by e-mailing clubstars@mayonews.ie.

  1. All three are worthy nominees. They all put in great performaces in the county final. My vote is for Cillian though. He was a scoring machine for ballintubber all year round. He has awesome talent for a 19 year old.

  2. well done to all 3. Alan probably has limited space remaining on the mantle piece so id like to see Barry or Cillian get it! Fair play to barry for hanging in there. Most others with the same list of injuries would have packed it in by now. He could yet make a huge contribution to the county team next year. Heres hoping

  3. Looking at the team that was selected on the night by ‘expert’ judges, I think that it’s safe to say that the club star awards are fast becoming a farce and they do not select the best club players all year around. If the public were allowed to vote like they could for the player of the year, I suspect there would not be many arguments made
